8 corrected entries in season 4

Tempus Fugit (1) - S4-E17

Corrected entry: At the crash site of Flight 549, Scully says "The plane came in nearly vertical at 300 miles per hour." yet the fly-over view of the debris field shows it spread out over hundreds of feet. Unfortunately, on 9/11 we learned when large commercial aircraft crash straight into the ground, they leave massive, smoking holes. First responders at Flight 93 were not even aware they were looking at a crash site.

Correction: The appearance and shape of a crash site depends on many factors, such as the exact angle of impact, density and composition of the ground, landform, airplane construction, amount of fuel, and more. Since we have virtually no information regarding these factors, the comparison between Flight 549 and Flight 93 seems to be far-fetched.

Herrenvolk (2) - S4-E1

Corrected entry: After Mulder retrieves the metal spike right after stabbing the alien bounty hunter, he chases Jeremiah, who has boarded a boat. The shot cuts back soon after to the bounty hunter's body and the spike can still be seen in his neck.

Correction: The metal spike Mulder picks up belongs to the alien bounty hunter. You see him holding it before Mulder stabs him.

Herrenvolk (2) - S4-E1

Corrected entry: When Mulder stabs the alien bounty hunter and the body rolls down the hill, we see the metal spike in the back of his neck, surrounded by his green acid blood. Yet when Mulder climbs down after it, it is suddenly lying on the ground away from the body.

Correction: The metal spike he picks up belongs to the alien bounty hunter. You see him holding it before Mulder stabs him.

Zero Sum - S4-E21

Corrected entry: Misty finds the cabin Jane was in open, however when Jane went to the toilet, she locked the cabin. Because of the bees Jane could not have unlocked the doors. (00:02:55)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: In fact, Jane managed to open the cabin's door even though she was attacked by bees.

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: The pole does have a shadow, but it's just out of camera range.

Small Potatoes - S4-E20

Corrected entry: Eddie's ability to shape-shift is attributed to every muscle in his body being striated. While that's a reasonable explanation as to how he can change his face, it doesn't explain how he is able to change his hair. He has short hair and is balding, but when he mimics Mulder, he is able to match Mulder's longer and thicker full head of hair.

Phaneron

Correction: When "Mulder" Eddie drops by to Scully's apartment, she says, "We discovered an additional anomaly relating to the hair follicles in his scalp." That would account for the change in hairstyle.

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: CSM's writing means a great deal to him, and while he must certainly be aware that he has the power to have his stories published, it's highly likely that like many creatives, he simply wants them to be wanted on their own merit.

Musings of a Cigarette-Smoking Man - S4-E7

Corrected entry: This episode contradicts the season 2 episode "Apocrypha" where young CSM was seen in the 1950's with Bill Mulder as already a shadowy agent and smoking. This episode has CSM still a young man and not part of the Syndicate in 1963, and does not smoke yet. Also this episode fails to mention anything about the conspiracy with an alien species which is one of the key features about the CSM.

Correction: Melvin is simply guessing at some of the details, he probably got some of those incorrect details from the story that Carl Gerhard Busch wrote, which is because the main character is based on himself, and how would you keep your involvement in an alien conspiracy hidden from the public if anyone could find out who you are?

Correction: This whole episode is based solely on Frohike's guesses about CSM, so obviously, he was wrong on some details.

Bad Blood - S5-E12

Visible crew/equipment: I don't know if this is visible in all formats, but on the newest UK release on DVD, watching in widescreen, it's amazingly obvious. When Mulder recovers from the vampire attack, he gets up from the floor and breaks up a chair to make a stake. There is a shot of his feet as he smashes the legs off and bends to pick up a piece. In the bottom left hand corner of the screen, you can see a crew member's hand carefully and quickly placing a piece of wood on top of the pile for Mulder to pick up.

Show generally

Question: In a vast majority of the episodes, whenever Mulder and Scully investigate some mysterious or paranormal phenomenon, Mulder believes that some unknown force is responsible but Scully always has a rational explanation for what is happening. In other episodes, when Scully herself is caught up in something mysterious, she is the believer but Mulder is the skeptic. In those episodes, why would Mulder be skeptical about an unexplained phenomenon considering that he a was witness to his own sisters abduction and he saw many strange things that defied explanation while working for the F.B.I.?

Answer: As he stated many times throughout the series, Mulder needed Scully to be sober and skeptical. Whenever Scully's skepticism wavered and she started questioning her own rationality, Mulder would try to restore her sense of skepticism, because he needed her to be clear-thinking.

Charles Austin Miller

Answer: A variety of reasons. Just because Scully saw something unusual does not mean that it was. Mulder always needs concrete proof before he'll believe there's some otherworldly explanation for unexplained phenomena. He's too experienced to take a novice's explanation as fact. It is also a plot by device by the writers to switch the tables on the characters to make it more interesting and to let viewers see another side of their relationship.
