Factual error: In the background the full moon is visible and it's early morning (approx. 6:00 AM). However, at the start of the episode we see the full moon at night (approx. 19:50). Due to the fact that these are consecutive days, this situation is impossible from an astronomic point of view. (00:14:35)
Other mistake: When Mulder opens the body bag containing the "partial" remains of Max Pfennig (AKA Paul Gidney) a pulse can be seen beating in the right side of the corpse's neck. (00:18:10)
Other mistake: Sergeant Louis Frish had not enough time to walk down from the air traffic control tower to meet the agents since he was on the top of it when Mulder and Scully drive up to the tower - two persons can be seen on the top of the tower. (00:21:45)
Factual error: Gonzales shot himself in the forehead but he's got the back of his head intact - no exit wound. (00:27:40)
Continuity mistake: During the handbrake turn Scully smiles, although in the preceding and following shot her face is very serious. (00:31:15)
Other mistake: The landing plane is shown in a incorrect scale - it's too small compared to the sedans chasing Mulder and Scully. (00:32:30)
Answer: As he stated many times throughout the series, Mulder needed Scully to be sober and skeptical. Whenever Scully's skepticism wavered and she started questioning her own rationality, Mulder would try to restore her sense of skepticism, because he needed her to be clear-thinking.
