Work - S1-E3

Continuity mistake: Tara is sitting at her desk and tells Max they will have sex the following night, and she teases him that she "Might even bring some props." Right as she says this line, the camera cuts. In the first shot, she has one pencil in each hand, but in the second shot, suddenly both pencils are in her left hand. The position of her hands changes between cuts as well.

Work - S1-E3

Continuity mistake: When Marshall and Jason are speaking in the hallway near the end of the episode, watch the background. The extras playing the students often do not match as the shots cut back and forth. (Most obvious being that students walking down the hallway, who vanish and appear when they should not).

Aftermath - S1-E2

Continuity mistake: After "Alice" washes out Kate's mouth with soap, watch Kate's face. At certain times in the rest of the scene, there's a bit of soap-suds around her mouth, while at other times its gone. A red smear also appears on her face between cuts after she comes back inside of the restaurant to ask for an application.

Transition - S1-E6

Continuity mistake: Right after Charmaine opens her top to reveal her botched boob job, when Max goes up to see Tara giggling in the bedroom and sits besides her, Tara goes from facing forward to facing Max between cuts. She's also closer to Max in the second shot.

More mistakes in United States of Tara

Trivia: Despite the series being a critical darling and winning a number of prestigious awards, it was quietly cancelled during its third season in 2011, and network Showtime never gave a reason why the plug was pulled. Star Toni Collette has stated as recently as 2017 that she was still frustrated that the show had been cancelled, as she loved the series and the cast and thought it would have gone on at least a few more seasons.
