Rose Sayer: Don't be worried, Mr. Allnut.
Charlie Allnut: Oh, I ain't worried, miss. Gave myself up for dead back when we started.
Charlie Allnut: What a time we had Rosie, what a time we had.
Rose Sayer: Who do you think you are ordering me about?
Charlie Allnut: I'm the captain, that's what.
Charlie Allnut: Nobody in Africa, but yours truly, can get a good head of steam on the old African Queen.
Charlie Allnut: I don't know why the Germans would want this God-forsaken place.
Rose Sayer: God has not forsaken this place, Mr. Allnut, as my brother's presence here bears witness.
James Frazier: Well, well, Rocky! Say, this is a surprise.
Rocky Sullivan: Whadda ya hear! Whadda ya say.
Carmen Sternwood: You're not very tall are you?
Philip Marlowe: Well, I, uh, I try to be.
General Sternwood: Do you like orchids?
Philip Marlowe: Not particularly.
General Sternwood: Ugh. Nasty things. Their flesh is too much like the flesh of men, and their perfume has the rotten sweetness of corruption.
Philip Marlowe: You've got a touch of class, but I don't know how far you can go.
Vivian Sternwood Rutledge: A lot depends on who's in the saddle.
Norris: Are you attempting to tell me my duties, sir?
Philip Marlowe: No, just having fun trying to guess what they are.
Agnes Lowzier: Is Harry there?
Philip Marlowe: Yeah, yeah, he's here.
Agnes Lowzier: Put him on, will you?
Philip Marlowe: He can't talk to you.
Agnes Lowzier: Why?
Philip Marlowe: Because he's dead.
Philip Marlowe: So many guns around town, and so few brains.
Rick: I'm saying it because it's true. Inside of us, we both know you belong with Victor. You're part of his work, the thing that keeps him going. If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.
Ilsa: But what about us?
Rick: We'll always have Paris. We didn't have, we, we lost it until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night.
Ilsa: When I said I would never leave you.
Rick: And you never will. But I've got a job to do, too. Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that. Now, now... Here's looking at you kid.
Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?
Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here.
[A casino worker gives Renault a wad of money.]
Casino Worker: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: [Quietly.] Oh, thank you very much. [Loudly.] Everybody out at once.
[Last line, as Rick and Captain Louis Renault walk off.]
Rick: Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Major Strasser: Are you one of those people who cannot imagine the Germans in their beloved Paris?
Rick: It's not particularly my beloved Paris.
Heinz: Can you imagine us in London?
Rick: When you get there, ask me!
Captain Renault: Hmmh! Diplomatist!
Major Strasser: How about New York?
Rick: Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade.
Rick: Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine.
Ilsa: Play it once, Sam. For old times' sake.
Sam: [lying.] I don't know what you mean, Miss Elsa.
Ilsa: Play it, Sam. Play "As Time Goes By."
Sam: [lying.] Oh, I can't remember it, Miss Elsa. I'm a little rusty on it.
Ilsa: I'll hum it for you. Da.dee.da.dee.da.dum, da.dee.da.dee.da.dum...
[Sam begins playing on the piano.]
Ilsa: Sing it, Sam.
Sam: [singing.] You must remember this / A kiss is still a kiss / A sigh is just a sigh / The fundamental things apply / As time goes by. / And when two lovers woo, / They still say, "I love you" / On that you can rely / No matter what the future brings...
Rick: [rushing up.] Sam, I thought I told you never to play...
[Rick sees Ilsa. Sam closes the piano and rolls it away.].
