Revealing mistake: On the beach during the sword fight after the chest is found, in one overhead shot it shows the three men are casting shadows in different directions, revealing the presence of on-set lighting. (01:43:50)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: Whilst Elizabeth puppeteers her wedding dress, in the close-up Captain Bellamy stands up and says, "Over there," as he points with his left arm extended. However, in the next overhead shot, it is his right arm that is extended as he points. (01:06:50)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: Aboard the Pearl, after Will orders the rum to be loaded, and Gibbs responds, "Aye, the rum too," the cloth round Gibbs's neck has the loop to his right, but in previous and following shots it's actually "tied" round his neck the opposite way, with the loop to his left. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Plot hole: In a close-up, just as Jack is freed from the hole in the water wheel, we see the axle's circular wood frame with its spinning bars, above and behind him, as he runs the wheel. At the end of this close-up, Jack's happy facial expression gives way to a look of dread, as he supposedly sees an approaching metal bar about to make contact with his forehead. This is impossible, since all bars are spinning behind him. After a close-up of the actual bar, in the next shot as Jack's forehead makes contact, he stands further back and is now at the center of the circular wood frame, so as to be in perfect alignment with those spinning bars. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Plot hole: There are six metal bars mounted around the circumference of the water wheel's axle. In the wheel's interior, when Jack frees himself he lands on his feet, begins to run and promptly hits his head on one of those mounted axle bars, then falls out. Moments later, when Jack returns and runs in the wheel, he is shorter (way more than a foot) than all six of the mounted axle bars spinning with the water wheel, which would make that previous shot impossible, however humorous it is. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: After the ship with the "bride spirit" is attacked by the Kraken, Will ends up underwater, and when he surfaces his hair is soaked and slicked back, as he climbs on the ship's debris. However, in the next shot, his hair is parted, stringy and falling to the front. (01:33:50)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: After the Flying Dutchman's attack on the Pearl, when the Kraken attacks the Pearl, one of its tentacles comes through the captain's stateroom stern windows, which has considerable damage - notably the left window and part of the wall are completely gone. When Gibbs says, "Abandon ship or abandon hope," the stern windows are actually more intact - especially the left window/wall. (02:03:50)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: When Jack is trying to get the handcuff off his hand at the end of the movie, he has all of his rings turned inward to make it easier to get it off. But when the shot changes into a wide shot, as he pulls off the handcuffs, all of his rings are facing the right way. (02:09:10)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: In the scene when Captain Sparrow, Elizabeth, and Norrington dig up the chest and open it, we can see that there are documents filling the chest all the way to the top. The shot changes, and now you can see that there are fewer documents in the chest, even though they haven't started pulling them out yet. (01:45:05)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: After Jack takes the heart out of the chest he hurriedly closes its lid, the locks engage, and the key's end remains in the horizontal position when Jack runs off. However, when Pintel and Ragetti grab the chest the key's circular end is now vertical - the key does not turn itself. (01:51:00)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: When the huge water wheel rolls to the beach and falls on its side, it falls with the broken, wide, wood side of the axle facing up. However, as Will and Norrington climb out, inexplicably it's the slim side of the water wheel's axle that is now facing up. But in a following shot, it is the other way round again. (01:52:22)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: During the Kraken attack on the Pearl, Jack sneaks away in the long boat at the Pearl's port side. However, when Elizabeth walks over to the deck rail, sees Jack and says, "Oh, you coward!" she is actually standing at the Pearl's starboard side, and it would be quite impossible to see Jack. Take note of the rail rigging and mast. (02:01:20)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: When Governor Swann and Will go to see Elizabeth where she is imprisoned, Will and Elizabeth hold hands through the square bars of the cell. Their hands are actually in different openings depending on the shot. (00:18:55)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: After Jack opens the lid of the large chest, there is a close-up of the filled interior, which lies nearly a foot below the top edge of the large chest, with the smaller inner chest well hidden below. However, in the next shot the lid of the smaller inner chest is way up higher, actually level with the top edge of the large chest - before Jack lifts it. (01:41:20)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: When the water wheel rolls away from the camera, just as Jack falls out after hitting his head, the thin part of the axle is missing on the left, though at this angle it should be seen. Both sides of the axle are intact in following shots. Note, when the wheel rolls onto the beach, before it falls over, it is shown at the very same angle as the earlier shot. (01:52:30 - 01:56:30)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Other mistake: The rope is wound round Jack's body and the pole at his back numerous times. When Shishka-Jack falls, the pole gets jammed between the cliffs, but the pole does not break and the rope does not tear. The rope that goes round the pole numerous times simply disappears, leaving the rope intact around only Jack's body in order for Jack to twirl and unravel as he falls. (00:39:00)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: When Pintel, Ragetti and the dog are aboard the row boat, extra rowlocks (wooden posts attached to the gunwale) appear behind Pintel when the dog jumps overboard, and then they disappear when the wave flips them over. (00:29:40)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: When Jack blasts the bird pecking on the coffin, the wood debris differs between shots. As his gun-toting hand still pokes through the hole, there is attached wood debris sticking up 90° at the sides of the hole that was not in the previous shot. (00:06:10)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Continuity mistake: At Tia Dalma's, when Jack says, "Look, an undead monkey," and shoots the monkey, the flame of the candle above the monkey is extinguished from the gunfire. However, in the next shot that candle is burning brightly. (00:49:30)
