Murder, She Wrote (1984)
Trivia: The name of the horse, "Anchors Ahoy," is meaningless and silly. The term, "anchor's aweigh," is short for "the anchor is aweigh," meaning the anchor has been pulled free of the bottom. However, "ahoy" is a hailing call, used to attract the attention of another vessel or, perhaps, a person, and requires an answer. (It's kind of like saying, "Hey, you!") Since anchors are inanimate objects, they can neither hear nor respond to the call.
Suggested correction: It's the name of a horse! Registered purebred horses have all sorts of odd, silly, meaningless names that are personal to the owner. The names don't have to make sense. Also, two registered horses cannot have the exact same name, so it could be argued that the name "Anchors Aweigh" was already taken and this was an alternative choice. Additionally, some registered horses have names that are a variation of their sire or grandsire's name. "Anchors Ahoy" could be related to another horse named "Anchors Aweigh."

Trivia: In the novel, in the fight at the boom, many American sailors are injured, but Harris is the only one killed. Then, in the final confrontation at China Light, Jameson and Holman are the only ones killed; even the captain escapes, despite having been wounded at the boom. In addition, there is a third American missionary at China Light, a young man who escapes and (by implication) ends up with Shirley.

Trivia: A number of the actors portraying police officers, suspects, and others have a southern accent, even though the show is set in Colorado. That is due to the fact that, although establishing shots were filmed in Colorado Springs, the reenactments were filmed in Tennessee, to save on costs.

Trivia: In this episode, the murder victim's name is given as Reiko Hashimoto, and at one point, Gannon shows Friday a couple of photographs of her. Reiko Hashimoto was the maiden name of Reiko Douglas, the wife of comedy writer, author, and perennial talk show guest Jack Douglas, and the photographs used are of her.

Trivia: Thomas Heggen wrote the novel "Mister Roberts" based on his wartime experiences on two Navy cargo ships, U.S.S. Virgo (AKA-20) and U.S.S. Rotanin (AK-108). The Virgo was an attack cargo ship, designed for use in amphibious assaults, and saw quite a bit of action. In the movie, U.S.S. Hewell (AKL-14) was used as the fictional Reluctant. The Hewell was a light cargo ship, designed for coastal operations. A basic comparison of the three ships follows: Hewell/Reluctant: 176 feet long, 500 tons, 26 crew (not 62, as stated in the movie.) Rotanin: 441 feet long, 4000 tons, 206 crew Virgo: 460 feet long, 6500 tons, 404 crew.

Trivia: The submarine used in the movie as a (supposed) nuclear submarine was the U.S.S. Ronquil (SS-396), a WWII Balao-class diesel-electric submarine that had received a GUPPY IIA conversion. The number painted on the sail (509) was selected because it was from a block of hull numbers canceled at the end of WWII and never used.
