Trivia: Abel Ferrara, director of the film "Bad Lieutenant," was incredibly angry with the filmmakers, as he felt like they were stealing his concept and assumed it was a straight-up remake. He even went as far as to publicly say he hoped everyone involved in this film would be killed in an explosion. He later met with "Port of Call: New Orleans" director Werner Herzog, and they almost immediately made peace, with Herzog saying they spent most of the meeting laughing about the situation.

Trivia: Though sometimes billed as a sequel or remake to the movie "Bad Lieutenant," the films are not connected in any way beyond featuring a corrupt law-enforcement officer as the lead character. Director Werner Herzog tried to get the title changed because he didn't like the idea of it being compared to the original film since it was completely unrelated... and also because he hadn't even seen the original film.
