Corrected entry: What would Simon's plan have been if John hadn't gotten to the subway bomb in time? If it had exploded before he evacuated all the civilians, there would be lots of dead people as a result, meaning the cleanup would have taken much longer. Simon wouldn't have been able to get his people into the vault, so basically his plan relied on the sheer luck that McClane got to the bomb on time.

Correction: This is a question and not a plot hole. The plan was for the bomb to go off and not to be thrown out of the train. The cleanup didn't affect the plan to steal the gold.

Character mistake: Why didn't Joe, Connie, and the students just run back down to the front entrance of the school? They had plenty of time instead of making the effort of going to the roof.

Suggested correction: No, they couldn't. They barely made it to the roof on time and that was closer than the front entrance.

Corrected entry: During filming, John's sandwich board originally read "I HATE EVERY BODY" - the racial epithet was added in post production. The original text can be glimpsed several times during the scene, such as when Zeus is pointing a gun at the street gang.

Correction: During filming the sandwich board was left entirely blank and "I hate n*****s" was added in. "I hate everybody" was also added in for television or edited release. So this seems to be a mistake from the broadcasters, not the film.

Corrected entry: When Zeus goes to Yankee Stadium, the terrorists tell him to report to the home-team dugout. Yet when Zeus goes to Yankee Stadium, he is shown at the dugout along the third-base line, which any Yankee fan knows is the visitor's dugout. Given he knew which dugout he was meant to go to, and the importance of the situation, this can't just be a character mistake.

Correction: The terrorist simply aren't familiar with the fact that Yankee's home dugout isn't by third base. However, Zeus has a physical ticket that tells him where to go (row and seat number).

Corrected entry: During the Federal Reserve scenes, the driller machine cuts a hole in the wall into one of the gold deposits. In one scene, the gold is stacked at the same level. When we see the room on the television screen, there are 2 different height levels of gold in the room.

Correction: We see different sections. The first shot of the gold we see is the French Republic. The second shot (on the monitor) only shows part of the gold stacks, so they look even, but the view is cut off shortly above the doorknob. The 3rd shot on the monitor shows the whole section, and we see different levels of gold stacks, which are exactly the same stacks seen when it cuts to the camera view of it (as opposed to the monitor view).

Corrected entry: When McClane first pulls truck driver Jerry over, he sneaks a peak through the cover on the top of the truck. During the next overhead shots entering the aqueduct and whilst in the aqueduct, Jerry's truck cover is missing and the truck is empty.

Correction: Jerry's truck never has a cover and McClane never "sneaks a peek" under anything. Jerry's truck has red wood panelling on the side and McClane looks over this, you can even see his hand his holding onto the wood, and there's no cover to begin with.

Corrected entry: After the scene in the park with the jugs, McClane and Zeus climb over the fence. If you look at the fence you can see that the part of the fence they climb over has an extra bar on top to make it easier to climb over for the actors.

Lightrock

Correction: There is no "extra" bar. This is just how the fence is designed. The whole fence is that way, not just one section.
