Trivia: The role of Hannibal Lecter was originally supposed to go to Gene Hackman, who bought the rights to the source novel and had planned on directing the film himself. He backed off the project when he decided that the role was too dark for his taste, and he felt that he had already played an unlikeable character in "Mississippi Burning."

Trivia: Though he became famous as the piano player at Rick's Café Américain, Dooley Wilson, the actor who played Sam, was an experienced musician and bandleader, but not a piano player. He was a drummer, and mimed the piano playing. "As Time Goes By" was dubbed in later.

Factual error: Although it's a commonly used movie trope, cutting the brake lines on a bus would not produce the effect seen in the movie. Buses use air brakes, which by design, can operate even with substantial loss of pressure and often engage automatically if there is too much pressure loss.

Factual error: It is not possible to have a conjoined twin of the opposite sex. They are similar to identical twins, which are always of the same sex, in that they are formed from a single zygote. In the case of conjoined twins, the zygote fails to divide normally.

Trivia: At one point, the character of William Burke is reading "Weaveworld", by Clive Barker. The character of Candyman was created by Barker in his short story "The Forbidden."

Other mistake: At the Night Driver gallery showing, Haley is reading from a program that describes Anthony's "Say My Name" piece. The text states that Helen Lyle died from "self-emulation" instead of "self-immolation", immolation meaning death by fire.

Trivia: At one point, Amanda Waller says that she is supposed to play golf with Senator Cray. Cray is a notable character in the comics and after he dies, his son, The Atom, joins the Suicide Squad.

Factual error: When Ed and Lorraine Warren are trying to convince the lawyer to represent Arne, there are is a copy of "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel" on the shelf behind them, which was published in 2004. The film is set in 1981.
