Continuity mistake: In the bullfighting scene Herbie's driver-side running board is dented upward in the middle, but in the following scene it isn't there.
Herbie Goes Bananas (1980)
Directed by: Vincent McEveety
Starring: Charles Martin Smith, Cloris Leachman, John Vernon, Stephen W. Burns
Revealing mistake: After the shot that shows Herbie spitting sea water from his exhausts, look at the bumper in the next shot of Herbie, when he gets black smoke from his exhausts. The rust doesn't look real, because they used paint to make it look like rust.
Continuity mistake: When Herbie launches the bananas on the propeller of the villains' plane, the blades cut up the bananas, covering the villains. At this point, Quinn (the villain in the black suit) has his glasses in his mouth and he takes the glasses with his left hand whilst wiping the banana mess off his face. In the next shot, his glasses are now in his right hand.
Trivia: Due to the enormous number of stunts in this film, a total of 26 Volkswagen Beetles played the part of Herbie.
Trivia: When Herbie is made to "walk the plank" on the cruise liner, a real Volkswagen Beetle was thrown into the sea and was never retrieved.
D.J.: Why do keep calling this car Ocho? Ocho means eight. Can't you read the numbers?
Paco: Sure I can read the numbers. Five and three are eight. Anyone knows that.
