Continuity mistake: Jesus is shown from behind on the cross with large gashes on the backs of his legs. He was flogged across the shoulders and back only at the pillar.
Jesus of Nazareth (1977)
Directed by: Franco Zeffirelli
Starring: James Mason, Laurence Olivier, Olivia Hussey, Robert Powell
Continuity mistake: In the scene where the Roman soldiers are whipping Jesus and they take him off the post, there are no marks on his back, then the shot changes to when they are putting the red cloth on him, he has two huge gashes on his shoulder, but his chest doesn't have any gashes. Then in the scene right after that, he is walking towards Pilate, and he has many marks on his chest.
Other mistake: After Jesus is taken down from the cross, he blinks for a moment.
Trivia: Ian McShane was originally down to play the part of Jesus, and ended up being cast as Judas.
Trivia: In an effort by Lew Grade to save on expenditures, he wanted just six apostles in the production and not the traditional twelve.
Trivia: "Jesus of Nazareth" was banned in Egypt after religious leaders considered the content offensive.
