Factual error: Throughout the movie, characters refer to the "Air Force", when in this time frame (1942-3) it was the "Air Corps".
The Wackiest Ship in the Army (1960)
Directed by: Richard Murphy
Starring: Jack Lemmon, John Lund, Ricky Nelson, Chips Rafferty
Factual error: The movie is set somewhere around 1943 or 1944. The aircraft carrier shown is the USS Bennington CV20, which started service in January 1945, and the plane shown is a Grumman S-2 Tracker, which started service in 1954. The USS Bennington was first equipped with this type in 1960, just as the movie was shot. (00:03:15)
Lt. Rip Crandall: This hulk is commissioned? As what?
Ens. Tommy J. Hanson: It's unclassified, sir.
Lt. Rip Crandall: Uncla-? I can believe that.
