Deliberate mistake: At the beginning of the movie Mr. Coates tells his wife that he will be gone "all of three months, maybe four." The first time we see Bud and Elizabeth Searcy she tells Travis that her dog is pregnant and that Old Yeller is the father. We then see her dog that does not look very pregnant. The next time we see Elizabeth she presents Travis with one of the pups. The problem is that the pup that was supposedly just born is about 4 months old.
Old Yeller (1957)
Directed by: Robert Stevenson
Starring: Chuck Connors, Dorothy McGuire, Tommy Kirk, Fess Parker, Jeff York
Audio problem: When Old Yeller runs by the ground shot camera when Travis calls him, he barks ,but his mouth doesn't move.
Factual error: In one scene where Travis walks out the door of the kitchen half of the cabin, there is a thermometer nailed beside the door. In the late 1860's, when the movie takes place, thermometers like that were not available.
Trivia: Travis, Ollis, and their mother all starred together in Swiss Family Robinson also. (Travis as Ernst, Ollis as Francis, and the mother as the mother).
Arliss Coates: Why did you shoot Rosemary?
Travis Coates: She was sick.
Arliss Coates: Well, you were sick. How come we didn't shoot you?
Travis Coates: Well, that's some different.
Jim Coates: Now and then, for no good reason a man can figure out, life will just haul off and knock him flat.
Katie Coates: If that don't beat all. I never saw such a dog.
Travis Coates: And you won't never see another one like him.
