Character mistake: Casey is sixth of six male students standing in a row to individually demonstrate a karate move for Sensei. After the fourth student, Sensei passes up student #5 and says, "Next. Casey." Sensei completely missed the fifth student, the only other beginning white belt like Casey. (00:28:45 - 00:29:10)
The Art of Self-Defense (2019)
Directed by: Riley Stearns
Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Alessandro Nivola, Imogen Poots
Continuity mistake: The lamp above the picture on the wall at the karate school/studio changes in appearance a few times. The first time Casey visited the school, the light bulb was covered by the lamp shade (which was aimed toward the picture); the bulb was not visible but it cast light onto the picture. When the picture was blurred behind Sensei, there was a round circle totally outside of the shade to represent the light bulb (which should have been inside the lamp shade and not visible). (00:15:30 - 00:27:17)
Continuity mistake: After Sensei puts Casey's white belt around his neck, the camera shifts to Sensei putting Casey's yellow belt on him - but the yellow belt has already been wrapped behind Casey and back to his front (ready to be tied). (00:34:30)
Sensei: If a bear's forest catches on fire, the bear is still a bear. Even if a boat capsizes in rough seas and sinks to the bottom of the ocean with no survivors, it is still a boat.
Gun Store Owner: In a violent altercation, an armed victim is much more likely to be shot and killed than an unarmed victim. Suicide is more common with gun owners too. You're really going to love owning a gun.
