Continuity mistake: During Holmes and Moriarty's conversation at the latter's stronghold, while Holmes is saying that Moriarty wants to commit ordinary murder, the position of Moriarty's hands changes between shots. (01:00:38)
Trivia: Lionel Atwill, who plays Professor James Moriarty, had already played Dr. James Mortimer in the 1939 movie "The Hound of the Baskervilles," with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.
Professor Moriarty: The needle to the last, ay, Holmes?
Dr. John H. Watson: Woman? What woman?
Sherlock Holmes: She's blonde. Five foot six, full lipped and very affectionate.
Dr. John H. Watson: Oh, really?

Answer: It's possible. Even during WWII, people were less savvy about protecting personal information, particularly as asking for a home address seems innocuous enough as opposed to giving out government or military info. Of course, this is a movie, so some liberties are taken to serve the plot.
