6.9/10.The idea of all crime legal for one night out of the year is intriguing.Mainly when you consider what Congress gets away with all year long.Still I find it to be one of the better done home invasion movies with Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey doing a pretty good job. They go from a not caring well to do couple to one fighting for survival alongside their kids. The atmosphere almost reminds me of a mix of Halloween, Assault On Precinct 13, and Night Of The Living Dead. The young Purgers are especially creepy, obsessed with killing Edwin Hodge.I found him also to be pretty good.A decent start to the franchise.

The Purge mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Ethan Hawke is talking through the safety glass in the barricade to the polite leader of the gang outside, the leader shoots the loud-mouth guy standing to the right of him, using the pistol in his left hand across his chest. Immediately after that they show a top shot of him dropping his right hand holding the gun. (00:46:00)

Question: Why did the daughter's boyfriend, Henry, want to kill her father, James? It just seemed to come out of nowhere, and to me, it seemed like he didn't have any real motive.

Answer: He didn't like Henry, so Henry wanted him out of the way, so they could be together.
