The Outsiders

Question: In the scene where Johnny and Ponyboy are talking in the lot, Ponyboy goes over to sort out the fire. The camera zooms up on Johnny and you can hear voices echoing. Does anyone know what they're saying? I can't make them out.

Answer: Johnny is recalling the argument he heard his parents having; the voices were meant to sound angry but not to be understood. Its to help us understand his horrid home life.

Question: At the beginning of the movie when you see pony boy and johnny go up to Dallas you can here music playing in the background. When ponyboy asks "what d'you wanna do?" and dally goes "Nothin' legal, man." it gets turned up louder. Does anyone know the name of the song and the artist? I think it's called Gloria but I'm not sure.

Answer: That song is called Gloria and the artist who performed it is Van Morrison. Great song!

Jeanne Perrotta

Answer: Actually the version that was used was 'Gloria' by Them.

Question: What are the clothes and types of chucks Sodapop wears? I know they are plaid shirts but does anyone know the entire outfit when the boys are going to the rumble?

SodaPopLuver9

Chosen answer: Simple question, simple answer. Throughout the movie, and on the way to the rumble, he wears a (different colored) plaid shirt, white tee, blue jeans (on the day of the rumble he asks Darry "and where are my jeans?), and worn out tennis shoes.

Question: How did the church catch on fire? I know that in the scene before, Johnny drops a cigarette but he and Pony were also there the entire night. There is no way the blaze would have started once they left all them hours later. Also, what purpose did the children have being there? Why would they take a school bus to an old run down church? I get if they were going to just look but the adults let the children inside even though it was falling apart.

Answer: We don't know when the fire started, or even that it was Pony and Johnny who were responsible. But they knew that their cigarettes were the most likely explanation and so saw rescuing the kids as their responsibility. I recall the school being near the church for a picnic or something - the kids were explicitly told to stay away from the actual building. They were disobeying their teacher's orders by venturing inside.

Answer: In the novel, it's stated that the children were there for a school picnic, and that there was a possibility of them dropping a lit cigarette (which could have happened another time off screen in the movie).

Continuity mistake: When Dally falls off his chair in the drive-in movie theater, you can hear Ponyboy's laughter above them all. When the shot changes to Cherry, you can see Ponyboy with a serious face on in the background but you can still hear him laughing.

Trivia: The scene where Dallas tips over in the chair at the drive-in was not scripted - this is a blooper they decided to leave in.
