As a longtime fan of the "Saw" film series, "Saw 3D" was a heartbreaking failure on initial release. So much hype had been built up about this supposed "final chapter," and the film failed to live up to even a modicum of it. It's a messy, over-produced and under-written affair that feels more akin to bad fan-fiction than anything else. Oh, and the 3D sucked. 1 out of 5.

Hoffman: You wanna know the only thing that's wrong with killing you, Jill? I can only do it once.
Trivia: The "Horsepower Trap" (the car trap involving Even and his friends) was an idea that writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan have tried to get into several "Saw" films before, only to be told by the producers that it was too gruesome and cruel. Knowing this was the intended final film, the producers finally allowed them to include the scene.

Answer: He, his wife and his daughter were abducted before he decided to work with Jigsaw. He didn't put them in danger. As for why he decided to work with Jigsaw following his ordeal, like other characters in the franchise, he either developed a level of Stockholm syndrome or he concluded that Jigsaw's methods were right, or a combination of both.
