Revealing mistake: When the trucks start circling the Dixie Boy the blue truck turns in front of the orange Bic truck if you look real close you can see a hand on the steering wheel turning the blue truck. (00:15:00)

Audio problem: A soda can that is supposed to be full hits the man. When the can hits the ground you can hear that it's empty.

Factual error: The mounted machine gun fires far too many shots for the limited supply of ammo it has in the box attached to it.

David Mercier

Visible crew/equipment: In the closeup shots of the soda cans shooting out, you can very clearly see the the two hoses which are making the sodas shoot out.

Factual error: The rocket launcher that is used on the big yellow plough is a single shot M1A1 L.A.W. (Light Anti-tank Weapon). However, the woman then picks it up and fires it again. It could not have had another rocket in it, and reloading it takes much longer than the few seconds between firings in the film. Plus Joey didn't connect the firing clip to the trigger mechanism, as would be needed.

David Mercier

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Curt and Connie are attempting to get into the truck stop, the beer truck is ramming their car after they are freed from it. The driver of the beer truck is visible for a few seconds.

Visible crew/equipment: When the trucks have been circling the diner for about 20 minutes, in a leading shot of the big green goblin head on what appears to be the main truck, you can see a light coloured car in said truck's shiny metal bumper, but there are just trucks in the circle of possessed vehicles. The truck in front of the green goblin head truck isn't that colour either.

Continuity mistake: At the baseball field, a steamroller comes crashing through the billboard and rolls over a boy on the ground. You can see the roller's steering wheel falling off when he crashes through the board. The next shot, it is there again.

Continuity mistake: The amount of blood in the stains of Emilio Estevez's shirt changes between scenes. Sometimes they are small stains, close to the holes, then they are larger, as if blood seeped into the shirt, then they are smaller and slightly different in position in a later shot.

Visible crew/equipment: When Deke is riding his bike down the street on the ground you can see the camera cars tire tracks. This is only visible in the wet parts of the street.

Continuity mistake: At the baseball park when the steamroller runs over the kid, first the the kid has his arms on top of his head, then in the next shot his arms are down.

Revealing mistake: After Hendershot blows up the two trucks, Brett runs into the door. It's very obvious the glass was removed and replaced with plastic because it makes a plastic sounding noise and wobbles.

Visible crew/equipment: When the gunner is about to explode, you can see the incendiary device under the gunner.

Revealing mistake: During the scene where Curt and Connie stop at the gas station, When Curt jumps to avoid the tow truck, you can see the dead gas station attendant (or possibly a crew member) laying down. When the truck skids to a stop you can briefly see him get up and move around behind the bushes to the left.

Factual error: When the fuel truck arrives at the Dixie Boy to refuel the receptacle the spigot is moving by itself to release the fuel, however this is impossible because the spigot doesn't have electrical components, just like the spigot for the water sprinklers when Deke is riding through the neighborhood.

Revealing mistake: At the end of the movie when the survivors are sailing on the boat, the guy piloting it is Steve's stunt double because he has straight hair and is a completely different actor. In the next shot it's Steve piloting the boat.

Revealing mistake: During the bridge scene when the gray van crushes the red Chevette, if you look to the right of the screen a dummy is visible in the ACDC van.

RJTheAlternative1

Continuity mistake: When the trucks start circling the Dixie Boy, they show the Green Goblin truck starting the circle, and you see the old blue and white truck behind the orange Bic truck, then the next scene shows the toilet paper truck etc. and the blue and white truck is shown again.

Coach: Sodas, I'm buyin'.

Question: Why is it that the machines they used to fight back didn't try to attack the humans? The military vehicle had a .50 cal machine gun that shot AT them, but their guns seemed to work just fine.

applejackson

Answer: It should be noted, the ending title cards seems to set it up so there are no plot holes and answers any "why" questions (which, intentional or not by King, can be debated). While the opening premise is the comet's close pass by Earth caused all machines to turn on people, at the end, the Russians blew up a UFO 2 days later, suggesting that it was the aliens controlling the machines. Bill suggests aliens are trying to wipe out humanity (although at that point he's just guessing and had no evidence of an alien or UFO present), but it can be debated the actual premise was that aliens were just testing or experimenting on people.

Bishop73

Answer: The movie is infamous for its plot holes, among them this one, and "How come cars didn't start attacking people"? From the story point of view we can surmise that the M60 is part of the vehicle's structure, while hand-held weaponry stay inert.
