Continuity mistake: In the scene where Clouseau is having his hair shampooed, the amount of shampoo on Ponton's hands changes, and then the suds disappear. (01:07:40)
Character mistake: In the film, five items are stolen: the Magna Carta, the Turin Shroud, the Imperial Sword of Japan, the Pope's ring and the Pink Panther diamond. When Alfred Molina's character is challenged that they had found everything but the Pink Panther, he protests that 3 out of 4 is not bad, that's 75%. In fact, they had found 4 out of 5 or 80%.
Continuity mistake: When Steve Martin gets in his smart car to go to the airport, his car has 4 tail lights, we see a shot on the road and he has 6 tail lights. When they arrive at the air port they have 4 lights again.
Continuity mistake: During the restaurant scene in Rome, the Inspector insists on selecting the wine. He picks the first bottle from the middle of the wine rack. In the next shot, the slot is full and he places the bottle in a higher slot. In the third shot, he picks up another bottle from the middle of the rack.
Continuity mistake: Towards the end of the movie when Sonia was trying to escape, after Clouseau figures out that she stole the pink diamond. Sonia Is trying to escape and runs up through the kitchen to the second floor and is passing through the balcony. In one quick shot her red dress is exposing her right shoulder when in the rest of the scene it exposes her left shoulder.
Continuity mistake: When Sonia shoots Clouseau, he has his uniform buttons closed. When the bullet hit the medal and ricocheted off, it should have torn the fabric. Notice that there is no hole there.
Continuity mistake: When Clouseau falls over the crime scene tape in the cage where the Pink Panther diamond was stolen, a lock of hair falls over Vincenzo's face, but in the very next shot, Vincenzo's hair is slicked back. The lock then reappears and disappears in subsequent shots.
Continuity mistake: When the dream team is dining in the restaurant, Nicole holds her glass in her hands, nipping on it. In the next shot the glass is still on the table. (01:12:40)
Continuity mistake: During the finale, the dumbwaiter opens and you can see a large decorative napkin on a plate. But when Clouseau jumps into the dumbwaiter, the napkin has disappeared and a bun is now on the plate.
Continuity mistake: When Clouseau starts to explain how his reference system for parking tickets led to him solving the crime, he is holding the box containing the real Pink Panther diamond in his right hand, but after a quick cut to Dreyfus, we cut back to Clouseau and the box is nowhere to be seen.
Other mistake: Inspector Clouseau concludes Miss Solandres was the thief by looking at her license plate and discovering he gave the car a fine 2 days before she claimed to have arrived in Paris, 1 day before the Pink Panther was stolen. However she told Clouseau her car was a rental moments earlier, therefore he should've assumed the fine applied to the previous renter as Clouseau had no reason to doubt Miss Solandres' story at that point. (01:10:00 - 01:25:00)
Continuity mistake: When Clouseau is going to meet the "Dream Team" for the first time, he walks across the hall with Ponton and Nicole. We can see the cage from where the Pink Panther diamond was stolen as they approach it and it is clear that it is empty, but in the next shot the door opens and we see the detectives already inside the cage.
Continuity mistake: After Sonia shoots Jacques, Nicole and others come over and they unbutton his jacket. Later, when he chases Sonia around the building, all his buttons are closed again.
Revealing mistake: When we see Clouseau hanging on the chandelier on the CCTV at Alonso's mansion, you can see it is not Steve Martin but his stunt double.
Factual error: Near the end, a copper pan is used to deflect a bullet. Copper is a soft metal - the bullet would have gone straight through. If you can pierce a copper pan with a knife (as i have seen done), then a bullet would have no issue.
Factual error: Near the end, no one in the hall realizes that a real diamond cannot be destroyed by a bullet. Also, even if it was a fake, it couldn't be blown to smithereens with a single gunshot.
Revealing mistake: In the scene at the Pope's apartment, when Clouseau enters the balcony for the second time to "look at the moon", there is a third shot from his back when he is leaning out of the balcony. You can see a platform which supposedly was there to help him easily fall out. (00:54:35)
Plot hole: In the first film, the shape of the ring was a little different and it was set in a ring. Also, it was given to Xania. In the second film, she was never even acknowledged as donating it to the museum.
