Other mistake: When Murtaugh hangs the target at the shooting-range the hole is already in the center.

Continuity mistake: When Murtaugh comes downstairs and checks his tie it's on the outside of his vest. He then walks through a door and the tie is on the inside of his vest.

Continuity mistake: After the car crashes into Murtaugh's living room, Riggs escorts Joshua out onto the lawn. As Murtaugh starts patting him down, a shot from behind shows Joshua with his hands behind his head. In the very next shot from the front, his hands are now lower, behind his neck.

Factual error: After the car explosion in front of the Vogue theater on Hollywood Blvd, Murtaugh tells Riggs that "he's headed for the freeway" and "you can cut him off at the 3rd St bridge" (approximate wordage), and Riggs takes off running. 3rd St is nowhere near Hollywood Blvd (17 blocks away) and there is no 3rd St bridge within miles.

ReRyRo

Continuity mistake: When Riggs is counting out of the money to pay the three drug dealers, he puts a 20 dollar note on the table. The wind then blows the note against the bag of cocaine and it is lying flat down, but in the next shot the note is folded up.

Revealing mistake: During the fight sequence between Mr. Joshua and Riggs at the end of the film, Mr. Joshua lifts up Riggs and carries him on his back before dumping on the hood of the police car. You can see that Mr. Joshua is not Gary Busey but a stunt double.

Continuity mistake: After Joshua is leaving Hunsaker's home after killing him, he is talking to Peter on a mobile phone and it is nearly dark. In Peter's scene in the car, the sun is still up and it is late afternoon/early evening. They are both in the same city.

manthabeat

Visible crew/equipment: When Riggs frees Murtaugh near the end, the camera pans from left to right following him (after he kills the bad guy). On the bottom of the screen the shadow of a leg can be seen and it moves when the camera pans.

manthabeat

Factual error: Murtagh's picture shows him with a 173rd Airborne patch on his sleeve, and he later says his friend Hunsaker was wounded in 1965 in the Ia Drang in Vietnam. However, the 173rd Airborne was fighting at Bien Hoa at the time, which is hundreds of miles south of the Ia Drang. Although Murtagh may have been transferred before the picture was taken, it is highly unlikely that someone who "took a bayonet to the lung" would return to active duty so fast.

Audio problem: Right after Riggs handcuffs the suicidal man, the next shot shows Murtaugh saying "oh no" but his lips don't move.

Continuity mistake: When Hunsaker is talking to Murtaugh in his house, the shadows outside dramatically change throughout the scene. First the sun is beating down on Riggs from the right (over the ocean), then from the left leaving Riggs under a bunch of shadows from the tree. This constantly changes throughout the scene.

Continuity mistake: In the scene following Riggs and Murtaugh's conversation on Murtaugh's boat, Riggs crumples a beer can, and Murtaugh holds open the trash can lid, but the can falling into the trash can is intact, not crushed.

Visible crew/equipment: When the car with Joshua in it is speeding away after shooting Riggs, you can see that he was the only one in the back seat. In the close up in the car, you can see the shadow of the camera and camera man play across his face.

Movie Nut

Revealing mistake: As Joshua's chopper gets away, the camera follows it for a moment, then pans up to a long shot of the mansion. As it does so, the blades of the camera chopper can be seen at the top of the shot for a moment.

Movie Nut

Continuity mistake: When the helicopter with Joshua comes up and he starts firing at the house, Hunsaker has both hands on the carton of eggnog. When the camera cuts to a wide shot, he's starting to react to being shot again, and his left hand is about a foot away from the carton.

Movie Nut

Continuity mistake: On the shooting range, Roger hangs the target on the mechanical arm and runs it out a short distance. After it settles, the bottom hangs at about ten° to the left of the target's center. After running it back to show to his partner, and before Riggs runs it all the way to the wall, the bottom now hangs about 3 to 5° to the right of the target's center.

Movie Nut

Continuity mistake: Riggs is completely dry before he begins his showdown with Mr. Joshua, but after Mr. Joshua says "Don't mind if I do", we cut to Riggs, and he is now soaking wet.

Continuity mistake: When Riggs is fighting Mr. Joshua at Murtaugh's home towards the end of the film, the lawn is completely saturated in water from the spray at one point, but in the next shot appears completely dry.

Roger Murtaugh: See how easy that was? Boom, still alive. Now we question him. You know why we question him? Because I got him in the leg. I didn't shoot him full of holes or try to jump off a building with him.
Martin Riggs: Hey, that's no fair. The building guy lived.

Question: Who's the actor that played the jumper...? IMDB doesn't say... I thought I heard once that it's Mel Gibson's brother? He looks like the character "Johnny" in Mad Max.

Answer: The jumper's name was Len McCleary. He was played by Michael Shaner and is credited for the role in the film (and on IMDB).

Bishop73

Answer: Also, "Johnny The Boy" from the first Mad Max film was played by Tim Burns, according to Wikipedia; not only is he a completely different actor, but he is also obviously not Mel Gibson's brother.
