Night at the Museum

Factual error: The tablet was said to be 24kt gold. Something of that size in gold would be very heavy, but the kid carries it around like it has very little weight to it.

Other mistake: When Larry takes Jed back to his miniature city, in the shot where the T-Rex almost hits Larry, watch Teddy's' horse. His head moves, following Larry and the cameraman. This cannot happen as the horse and Teddy had been already transformed into statues. (00:42:00 - 00:43:00)

Suggested correction: The horse's head moves way before the point where Teddy turns back into a statue in a very close view.

Continuity mistake: When Larry is talking to Erica about getting a job, they both drink glasses of water. In one shot, Erica is just about to drink from her glass, but in the next shot her arm is lowered down by her waist. (00:05:05)

Factual error: When Larry is running away from Attila the Hun into the elevator, he pushes both hall buttons (up & down). When the elevator is descending, the indicator shows him going down from the top floor. The top floor only has a down button. Also, in that type of Otis elevator, when both buttons are pushed, the up light goes out first, indicating the elevator is answering an up call. The doors would recycle to answer the down direction before the down light would go out.

Continuity mistake: When Larry is about to grab the bone for the first time, a brochure on the right appears and disappears between shots.

Other mistake: When Larry crosses the street, when going to the museum for the first time, the traffic light for pedestrians is red the entire time. Yet he and other pedestrians casually cross the street (he even stops for a bit) while the yellow cabs don't make any attempt at driving off (although their light should be green). Although there's a small gap between one light turning red and the other turning green, it takes close to 10 seconds while nobody appears to be in any rush.

Continuity mistake: When Larry is interviewing with the Big Apple employment agency, the business cards in the desk holder move from being all neatly assembled within the holder, to being lifted out on the left bottom corner.

Continuity mistake: When Larry is in the locker room getting ready for his shift, he doesn't have a necktie on. As the shot changes when he turns to talk to the three guards and close his locker, he has a necktie on. (00:49:55)

Continuity mistake: When Rebecca leaves the Museum after sitting in front of the Sacajawea display after Larry asks her to leave as he's closing up, from the internal shot of when she's leaving the Museum she exits through the middle rotating door but on the outside shot she is seen leaving from the door on the right hand side of the Museum.

Suggested correction: She is coming out from the same door in both points of view.

Suggested correction: She doesn't exit the middle door. She exits the door on the far left (you can see the 3 red carpets laid out in front of the doors and she's on the 1st/3rd one). The area to her left isn't an exit door.

Continuity mistake: When Cecil is giving Larry his equipment, he hands Larry the flashlight pointing down. In the very next shot, when Larry takes it, the flashlight is pointing up. (00:17:30)

Other mistake: In the very first scene of the movie where Larry finds his car ticketed and the left front tire booted by the police, there is no padlock on the boot itself.

Continuity mistake: When the T-rex and Larry are playing for the first time, the position of the bone on the floor keeps changing all the time.

Sacha

Continuity mistake: When Larry's mouth and clothes are covered in foam from the fire extinguisher, the amount around Larry's mouth and nose changes or disappears and reappears between shots.

Sacha

Continuity mistake: When Larry walks towards the museum for the first time, the woman behind him disappears in the wide shot.

Sacha

Factual error: The movie is set in the New York Natural History Museum, and there is a T-Rex skeleton in the movie. However there is no T-Rex skeleton in the Natural History Museum. There is a model T-Rex and a T-Rex skull, but no full skeleton.

Factual error: Columbus is consistently depicted speaking Italian. In reality, he spoke Spanish, Latin and Greek but never Italian.

Continuity mistake: Near the end of the movie, the taxi's windshield is completely clear in the outside shots, but covered in snow in the interior shots.

Sacha

Continuity mistake: When Nicky turns the stone, there's a close-up shot where a beam of light reflects on his face and he opens his eyes wide. A frame later, from a different angle, the beam is gone and the eyes are shut. Yet when the angle swaps to the previous close-up, the awe expression and light reappear.

Sacha

Continuity mistake: When Larry and Nick are talking to Teddy, trapped behind bars by the museum workers, Nicky is either above the iron bars or below, depending on the angle.

Sacha

Larry: This is so not worth $11.50 an hour.

Trivia: The film was originally intended to be directed by Stephen Sommers, who is best known for directing 1999's "The Mummy." Sommers left the project following creative differences with the studio. Sommers poked fun at the film years later in a commentary track in 2018, noting that he saw a movie once where a character was constantly and annoying using a flashlight even though it was bright enough he wouldn't need one. Sommers wouldn't name the film, but slyly said "it took place at night in a museum."

Question: If Cecil, Gus and Reginald knew that the tablet brought the exhibits to life, and could extend their own, then why didn't they steal it from the moment it was brought to the museum in 1952? Why wait after so many years?

Answer: The tablet did not extend life (the guys grew old there, remember), but gave more energy to those affected. As for stealing it earlier, that would not have been possible as they would have been the prime suspects. The best way to do the crime was to pin the rap on somebody new, like Larry, after they had retired.

That's a seriously long waiting game.
