The Holiday

Continuity mistake: When Cameron Diaz is singing and dancing in the first shot she is holding a wine glass. In the second shot, when the camera pulls back, the glass is sitting up by the bottle. There was no break in the sound. (00:33:55)

Continuity mistake: At the end of the film when Cameron Diaz decides to leave the Mercedes and walk back to the cottage, in every shot of the lane leading back toward the cottage, the tyre tracks appear and disappear with each shot.

Continuity mistake: When Iris first arrives at Amanda's house and is rushing from room to room, her scarf is wrapped around her neck and tied, then untied, then tied. Also, when she gets out of the taxi, she is not holding a notebook. Yet, when she enters the front door, she is holding a notebook.

Continuity mistake: The morning after Amanda and Graham first spend the night together, as Graham is preparing to depart, he pulls a sports coat over his shirt. Initially he pulls the shirt collar over the coat, in the next shot the collar is under the coat, and in the next the collar is out again.

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie, When Kate Winslet's character is talking to a friend who works in the Daily Telegraph office, this friend's cigarette changes length with different shots.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Amanda has come downstairs after "never having that much to drink", her leggings are pink. Then it shoots to Graham, and back to Amanda, and her leggings are suddenly a dark brown. This definitely wasn't a trick of the light.

Iris: Miles. You really are an incredibly decent man.

Trivia: When Jack Black is singing the tune from "The Graduate" in the video store, the guy who tuts and gets annoyed is Dustin Hoffman, who starred in the Graduate. Apparently his cameo was unplanned, he noticed the cameras and stopped by, and it was decided he should make his small appearance.

Question: I'm assuming that when Graham received the phone calls from Sophie & Olivia, who Amanda thought were other girlfriends, they were actually from his daughters. I have a couple of questions about this. Firstly, for the girl's names to flash up on his phone they must have their own phones but surely the youngest one at least is far too young to own a phone and ring her father? Secondly, wouldn't Graham when receiving a phone call from his daughter answer it instead of saying, "I'll ring her back"? I know at this point Amanda doesn't know he has kids & he might be trying to hide it from her, but later he does answer a phone from the other kid in front of Amanda before she finds out about the girls.

Answer: 1. As far as the daughter being too young to ring her father, there are actually some companies that make phones especially for children. They only dial the parent and the police and are very easy to use. 2. It's entirely possible that he didn't need to speak with Sophie right away, whereas the call from Olivia comes later and he may have been expecting it.
