Correction: The German Shepherd doesn't "appear from nowhere." He enters from off-screen. We never see that side of the lobby. There may be a door leading to another room, or the dog may have been sitting there all the time. The two dogs, Irish Wolfhounds, flanking the elevator, are there throughout the scene.
