Halloween

Plot hole: We see Michael wearing the mask throughout the day, from morning at the Myers House, to mid-day outside Laurie's school, to afternoon when Tommy is leaving school, yet when Laurie and Annie see the sheriff in front of the hardware store on the way to their babysitting jobs (presumably in late afternoon or early evening), the store's alarm is still ringing and the sheriff mentions that one of the items stolen was a Halloween mask.

Plot hole: When Laurie and her friend see the Sheriff in front of the hardware store, he tells them someone broke in and stole "A Halloween mask, some rope, and a couple of knives." Without someone doing a complete inventory of the store, there would be no way to know the specific items that had been stolen, especially when they are such commonplace things as knives and rope in a hardware store.

Suggested correction: Simple, he watched the security footage.

Before shutting off the alarm? Store video wasn't really a thing in a small town store back then.

Plot hole: Since the station wagon from the asylum was stolen, it should have been reported stolen along with the escape of Mike Myers. So why was the sheriff department not looking out for the stolen station wagon? We see Myers driving that station wagon freely without being stopped, while wearing a mask in broad daylight.

Continuity mistake: During the beginning of the movie, when Laurie is talking to the police officer, the sun is shining bright as if it is a perfect day, then when Laurie walks to her house, the trees look as if it has just quit raining.

Dr. Wynn: Now, for God's sake, he can't even drive a car.
Loomis: He was doing very well last night! Maybe someone around here gave him lessons.

Trivia: When they were shooting the scenes for the start of the film (all the ones seen from Michael's POV) they couldn't get the 6-year old child actor until the last day so the movie's producer, Debra Hill, volunteered to be Michael for any scenes where his hands come into view. This is why the nails on young Michael's hands look so well manicured and varnished.

Question: I have wondered this for ages. Laurie went over to the Wallace house because she thought they were all playing a prank on her. So when she found the bodies in the bedroom, why did she never assume that this could all just be a practical joke set-up? How did she know straight away that it was the real thing?

Gavin Jackson

Chosen answer: Because it was too graphic and elaborate for her to think it might be a prank. Not to mention that there was probably a very distinctive smell to the room.
