Continuity mistake: When Alec Baldwin goes to visit Medgar Ever's brother at his radio station, the brother pours Alec a mug full of Coca-Cola. Alec sets this mug down and never touches it. They show one wide shot of Alec, and there is a double pen holder in front of the cup, the pen on our right side overlaps part of the cup, while the pen on the left side is not near the cup. Later we see another wide shot of Alec, and now the cup is in the same position, and the camera is from the same angle, but the left pen overlaps the cup instead of the right pen.

Visible crew/equipment: In the final scene of the film where Whoopi Goldberg as Merlie Evers is addressing the press, it is a tense and emotional scene. However, director Rob Reiner obviously had little or no control over his extras, as one idiot is clearly shown grinning into the camera.

Bobby DeLaughter: I don't see what difference it makes if a man was bushwhacked yesterday, today, or 27 damn years ago. Murder is murder. And it's still my job to bring the son of a bitch to justice. And it's still your job to help me.
Delamar Dennis: No! I did my job. I testified against the Klan. They shot out my windows, blew up my car, they hunted and harassed me for twenty five years. Don't that get me even for the wrong I done?
Bobby DeLaughter: We never get even for the wrong we've done.
