Factual error: Towards the beginning of the film, the Cashes receive a notice about their rent. It's the 1950's and the address has a ZIP code. ZIP codes were not introduced until 1963.

Factual error: The scene where Johnny is walking home from June's house at dusk. If you look at the phone pole as the camera pans you will see cable TV equipment which certainly wasn't around at that time.

Factual error: When the song "I Walk the Line" is first being played in the studio during the montage, Luther Perkins hits a high note on the E string (the thick top string). His fingers were not low enough to play that high of a note on the E string.

Factual error: In the scene of Johnny's first audition, Sam Phillips is sitting at a table telling Johnny he wasn't believable as a God fearing man. On the table is a pack of cigarettes with a bar code on it. Bar codes weren't in use until 1974.

Factual error: In a scene set in 1944, young Johnny quotes a line from a Foghorn Leghorn cartoon; that character debuted in the cartoon "Walky Talky Hawky", released August 31, 1946.

Factual error: Waylon is playing guitar by the apartment window and John wakes up. Waylon did not have his hair long like that in '66. That was 70's Waylon.

Factual error: When Cash overhears Elvis recording Elvis Presley recording Milk cow blues, there are drums on the record. Elvis did not use a drummer when this record was made.

Trivia: The scene at the Malco theater, where Joaquin Phoenix and the other men on the tour are sitting around drinking onstage before their matinee performance, wasn't actually filmed at the Malco theater. It was filmed in the auditorium of Memphis Hume High School. The same school that Elvis Presley attended.

Question: After John's arrest in El Paso, in the following scene he's talking with Viv about the incident and denying he has a problem, even though she says everyone around him says so. She then asks about June and he says she left the tour and Viv responds with "Well that explains everything, doesn't it?" What exactly does she mean by that statement?

Answer: Viv's implying he is acting the way he is cause he is upset about June leaving.
