The Crow: Wicked Prayer

The movie begins with a prologue set in a Wild West era, where a cowboy named El Nino sets a Navajo man on fire, causing him to curse El Nino and all his descendants. Fast forward to the present, and we are introduced to Jimmy Cuervo, played by Edward Furlong, and his girlfriend, Lily Ignites the Dawn, portrayed by Emmanuelle Chriqui.

Jimmy and Lily are a young, rebellious couple living in a small town in the American Southwest. They visit a local carnival happening in town, only to be confronted by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War (David Boreanaz), Famine (Tara Reid), Pestilence (Yuji Okumoto), and Death (Marcus Chong). The Horsemen are followers of Satan worshiping a cult leader named Luc Crash (Dennis Hopper).

The Four Horsemen mistake Lily for Luc Crash's ex-girlfriend, Lola Byrne, whom he had sacrificed to gain supernatural powers. In a fit of rage, War brutally murders both Lily and Jimmy, leaving their bodies to be found by a Navajo elder who takes them to a shaman, El NiƱo, played by Danny Trejo. The shaman resurrects Jimmy as The Crow, empowering him with supernatural abilities to seek revenge.

As The Crow, Jimmy embarks on a mission to avenge his and Lily's deaths. He confronts the Horsemen one by one, systematically taking them down. During his quest, Jimmy encounters his estranged father, Harlan, portrayed by Dennis Hopper, who is an alcoholic and unaware of Jimmy's new existence as The Crow.

As Jimmy eliminates the Horsemen, it is revealed that Luc Crash and Lola Byrne (also played by Emmanuelle Chriqui) are planning to perform a dark ritual at a nearby ancient Native American burial site. The ritual aims to summon Satan himself, granting them immense power. Jimmy races against time to stop the ritual and save his sister, Lilly (Emmanuelle Chriqui), and a young orphan, Jamie (Eddie Mekka), who is being held captive by Luc Crash.

In a climactic showdown, The Crow confronts Luc Crash and engages in a brutal fight that leads them to the ancient burial site. As the ritual begins, The Crow interrupts it, battling Luc Crash, ultimately defeating him. The satanic ritual is disrupted, preventing Satan's summons, and Luc Crash is left wounded.

In the end, it is revealed that the curse cast by the Navajo man in the Wild West era has been lifted. The spirits of Jimmy and Lily move on, ascending to the afterlife, finally at peace. Jimmy's father, Harlan, witnesses this and begins to mend his relationship with his living daughter, Lilly.

Continuity mistake: When Lola is caressing Lucifer, between cuts her one hand goes from his hip to his shoulder. There is a cut where she repeats one of the rubbing motions twice soon after.

Trivia: When Jimmy is about to be brought back by the Crow, he has an eerie dream about Lily. If you listen carefully, you can hear two women whimpering in the background music/sounds. This particular sound effect is taken from the movie "Van Helsing" from the first scene to feature Dracula in color. (The only previous scene with him was black and white).

More trivia for The Crow: Wicked Prayer

Question: Originally this fourth "Crow" film was going to be called "The Crow: Lazarus" and be about a black wannabe rapper who is brought back by the crow after a drive-by shooting. Anyone know why this plot was dropped? Because it seemed to fit the material more than a movie about Satan and God.

Answer: As I understand it, it all had to do with a spat between the director of the original Crow movie (Alex Proyas, who had "approval" of all the subsequent Crow movies) the producer of the Crow movie franchise, Jeff Most, and Miramax. Miramax eventually caved in favor of the producer and it was made into a "non-Crow entity" when Miramax reportedly signed Eminem to play the bad guy.
