Continuity mistake: When Boobie Miles receives his diagnosis from the Midland doctor, he gets upset and rips the x-ray film of his injured knee off the wall. In the next shot, he rips it down again.
Continuity mistake: During the playoffs, Carter's helmet is matched up with a helmet that has a "W" logo. But when they are actually playing in the game, they are wearing helmets with a longhorn logo.
Continuity mistake: On the second to last play of the championship game, the coach calls for an injured Don Billingsley to run the football on fourth down because Carter was going to play a prevent defense due to the fact that Permian were supposedly out of running backs due to injuries. But Chris Comer, another running back who was supposedly knocked silly a couple of plays before, was on the field for that play as well.
Factual error: The Bank of America logo seen atop the scoreboard is a relatively new logo from the mid 1990's. It was not in existence in 1988 so should not be in the movie. (00:56:25)
Factual error: In FNL, there is a scene showing a living room with DVDs in it. DVDs were not even on the market in 1988.
Continuity mistake: In the scene when Boobie Miles walks into the locker room to get his stuff from his locker, his knee brace is on the left leg. In the next shot the brace is on his right leg. In the next shot the brace is on his left leg again as he walks out of the locker room.
Answer: In the movie he was being recruited by the fake school, I forget the name something Kansas. And at the end it said that he played football for Baylor, so I think he did get a scholarship. But in many cases just because a player is on a good team does not mean he has what it takes to play at the next level, there is a big difference between high school and college. For instance you could be the starting QB on a State Championship team, but the team is mainly a running team, and almost never passes, or you are a running QB who almost never throws the ball, you might be really successful in High School, but not have any of the skills to play QB college.

Winchell never received a scholarship despite setting records at Permian. He was known for choking up in tight games, which could be the reason he never got recruited. He played at Baylor his freshman year but was not successful. He's the best QB Permian ever had and maybe west Texas.
