Deliberate mistake: The energy the meteor would displace upon impact would have created a crater of significant size compared to what was portrayed. It also didn't appear to have any impact to the structure of the cavern it crashed into either.

Evolution (2001)
1 deliberate mistake
Directed by: Ivan Reitman
Starring: Julianne Moore, Dan Aykroyd, Seann William Scott, David Duchovny, Orlando Jones
Other mistake: At the very beginning of the movie, when the guy throws the match into the house, it doesn't enter through the window. The match crashes and bounces back, but the fire inside the house still occurs. (00:02:40)
Dr. Allison Reed: At this rate, they will take over Glen Canyon in three days. In a week, the rest of Arizona. Within two months, the United States will officially belong to them. And we are extinct.
Governor Lewis: Oh, you gotta be shittin' me.
Trivia: "Evolution" was originally written as a serious sci-fi thriller by writer Don Jakoby. When Ivan Reitman signed on to direct, he felt the concept would make for a good ensemble comedy, similar to his film "Ghostbusters." Jakoby actually liked the idea of reworking the film into a comedy so much, he stayed with the project and assisted in re-writes.
