Question: It was mentioned several times throughout the movie that Lacuna Inc gets really busy on Valentines, and also at Joel's place when the tech guy tells Patrick to stop fooling around as they have to get moving to other jobs... So what happened to all the other clients since the remainder of the night was spent at Joel's place?
Question: Alright I understand all but one part of the movie. Why was Clem acting all weird and freaks out during the movie? For example when she tells Patrick "I'm getting old, I'm disappearing, nothing makes any sense." And why was Patrick using Joel's diary entries and other stuff on Clem?
Answer: Clem is slowly becoming aware that her mind has been tampered with, and gets regular flashes of deja vu when talking to Patrick, who is using Joel's diary in order to get closer to her, sometimes conducting exact conversations that Joel and Clem shared during their relationship, which naturally causes her to become a little disorientated.
When it comes to why she feels old, Joel was a significant portion of her life for like 3 years. There is probably very little memory that was left during that time period that did not involve Joel (including birthday celebrations), and therefore, it doesn't feel like 3 years have passed to her. She knows the year; she just doesn't feel like her age.
Question: After someone gets his memory erased, Lacuna sends a note to the related to ask them to no longer talk about the erased thing. Why does Lacuna intentionally not inform Joel that he had been erased from Clem's memory? (Joel's father ends up giving him his note and Dr Mierzwiak says he shouldn't have seen it). This won't prevent him getting hurt. After Clem erased him from her memory, he could have talked to her about their relation.
Answer: Clem would have had to tell the doctor the names and addresses of all the people whom she wanted to send a note to. Obviously she didn't want anything sending to Joel for fear of hurting him.
Question: I know this is random, but doe anyone one know what song was used during the montage explaining Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind at this year's Golden Globes?
Answer: If it was the same song used on the trailer for the film - it is "Mr Blue Sky" by ELO.
Question: Why is there so much blue symbolism in Kate Winslet's house. I know her hair is blue, but are we to believe she changes the colour of everything in her house when she changes her hair colour (which is often, apparently)?
Chosen answer: Psychologists believe blue is a 'peaceful' color, as opposed to agressive colors like red. Experiments seem to show that people are genuinely effected emotionally by use of colors. Blue would promote a clear, calm - dare I say spotless - mind. Note this is also used in Forrest Gump; almost everything Gump wears is blue, suggesting again his calm, uncluttered thoughts.
Answer: When the techs are packing up then next morning, the young guy (Kirsten's boyfriend) says something about having to get to the next job. So its safe to assume the erasure takes a good 8 hours to complete normally but Joel kept fighting them so it would have taken a little longer.
