Continuity mistake: When Dr. King asks Poirot why would the culprit, of all people, kill Mrs. Boynton, Lennox next to her has her fingers crossed together, but in Poirot's reply he has the closed fist against the palm, and his wife's position is different as well. (01:35:05)
Continuity mistake: When Jefferson Cope says "I admit" during dinner, the position of his hands changes in the mid-sentence cut. (01:29:50)
Continuity mistake: When Lennox Boynton scoffs "What motive, for God's sake" at Poirot's accusations on his wife, the position of his right arm and the position of his hat under the sun have changed from the previous shot. (01:23:55)
Character mistake: Poirot talks with the Boyntons about the solution of the enigma after the dances, sitting at the table with them. By them, the British flag is hanging upside down from the wall - they are at the coronation ball, so not exactly a place where protocol does not matter. (01:29:05)
Continuity mistake: When Carbury asks Poirot "Do you reaaaally believe all that?" as he reads Dr. King's testimony about the shooting, Peter Ustinov's hand is up to his breast pocket in a shot, down the side in the next. (01:17:50)
Continuity mistake: With Dr. King at his side, Poirot waves hi to Hassan, the 'Arab boy'. The position of Poirot's hat and cane is different in the two shots; in front of him, or down his left hip. (01:14:55)
Continuity mistake: One of the menacing individuals behind Dr. King is wearing a keffiyeh that obscures his face entirely. The loose part down his chest is in a different position in the widest shot when they back her against the wall. (01:17:05)
Continuity mistake: Colonel Carbury is getting a tongue-lashing from Lady Westholme. He picks the cup of tea from his attendant, with the right hand, and the receiver is on his left hand. Camera cuts away for one second on Lauren Bacall, and then in close-up the colonel is holding the phone with his right hand, immediately switching to the left. (01:14:25)
Factual error: When Poirot sets his trap about the "brown spider", the man next to Lady Westholme is intently reading an issue of Pic magazine; it's the July 1938 issue with Carol Landis on the cover. But the movie is set in May 1937. (01:12:30)
Continuity mistake: Poirot confronts Carol inside the cave. When she says that "In the morning the whole thing seemed ridiculous" there's a quick reaction shot on Ustinov, and the bottom strap connected to the glasses tucked inside his breast pocket runs a few inches above his waistcoat, across the shirt; in the rest of the conversation it practically touches the waistcoat. (01:09:05)
Continuity mistake: When Poirot leaves Carbury to go question the two remaining Boyntons, the military vehicle he gets on has a different serial number than the one he steps out from. (01:07:15)
Continuity mistake: Dr. King reacts with a big laugh at Poirot's insinuation that Raymond could have decided to kill his mother. In the longshot though you can spot both characters in the crowd, and they are simply walking side by side. In the closer view, Sarah King is facing Poirot. (00:51:35)
Continuity mistake: When Poirot asks Dr. King "You noticed the marks on the wrist, of course?" his hat has changed position in his lap. (00:46:35)
Continuity mistake: Dr. King announces Emily's death. The lawyer supports the archaeologist who is fainting, but does so being in different positions between shots. Even the local who faces away from them is standing in a different position - in fact this particular mistake keeps repeating, with the guy's left arm all the way down the side in some shots and his hand on the waist in the closer angles. (00:45:25)
Audio problem: Dr. King is looking at the strange situation in front of Emily's tent while Lady Westholme is talking to her. In foreground, Lauren Bacall's lips don't match the audio of what she's saying. (00:44:35)
Continuity mistake: The Boynton kids are crowding the mother preparing her according to her instructions. Ginny reluctantly goes to bed, Nadine brings her the medicine, and Raymond walks around her to get to the other side; the shadows in these two shots are different, as shown by the tent's peg, in the shade first, in the sun a second later. (00:40:35)
Continuity mistake: In Qumran, Poirot inquires about the disappearance of Cope. When Healey tells him "And there's more bad news", the extras in the background have changed. (00:36:00)
Continuity mistake: Sightseeing in Jerusalem, Nadine is reconciling with her husband and tells him to smile. Behind her, Dr. King reads a book and turns right to left. Three women walk in frame from the left. The camera cuts away, and next time we see Nadine there's a blatant repetition of the same movements; again King's half-turn and the two extras that walk into frame same as before. (00:30:15)
Factual error: The car Poirot and Dr. King use to get to the hotel escorted by colonel Carbury (and then to Qumran) is a military Humber Snipe Mk II, making its first appearance in 1938. The movie is set in May 1937. (00:27:00)
Other mistake: The ship the characters use to get to Israel from Trieste is supposed to be named "San Salvatore", but the stock footage is a repeat of the exact same ship they used to get from the US to London, the St. Louis. (00:20:15)
