Corrected entry: In the scene where Adam and his father are in the shed, after the father killed the sheriff, dad is seen wiping the blood off the blade. There is still some blood left on the blade as he moves forward to hang it up. When he does hang it up, the camera switches to a new shot and the blood that was left is now gone.

Correction: First, that's FENTON with his fater, NOT Adam. Second, it's dimly lit and there are many shadows...too hard to say the blood is gone, not just obscured.

Corrected entry: When Fenton digs the hole for the cellar, what does he do with all that dirt that was piled up around the hole. All of a sudden it's not there.

Correction: A hole that large would require you to move the dirt away from the site periodically. Otherwise you'd have an 8 foot hole with an 8 foot pile of dirt next to it.

Corrected entry: In the scene when Adam kills his brother at the typewriter, his brother is seen drinking straight out of a liquor bottle but when Adam goes to kill him, the bottle is sitting on the desk with the lid on.

Correction: Both scenes are flashbacks and the first one is the one Adam made up to fool the FBI agent. There are a great many differences between them.

Corrected entry: When the son kills the dad with the axe, he's seen swinging the axe at his belt level but then the dad is seen with the axe sticking out of his chest at an angle which could have only been done by someone taller than him.

Correction: Actually, the father is kneeling down. So when Fenton swings the axe, it is natural that it would hit the dad in the chest.

Agent Wesley Doyle: You'll never get away with this.
Adam Meiks: God will protect me.

Question: Little Adam is looking in a grass-filled jar at the beginning of the movie which has a label on it that says "Curtis". At the very end of the movie, grown up Adam (as a sheriff) has a man working for him whose name is Curtis. What is the connection here? There is obviously one.

Answer: According to the Director's Commentary with Bill Paxton, the "pet in the jar" was a millipede and was named "Curtis" by Matthew McConaughey simply enough after Bill asked, "What should we call it?" Later when the other Curtis appears Paxton comments that "This guy's name is Curtis and people go 'Wow, why is that guy's name Curtis and the pet Curtis?'" But he fails to actually answer the question. In the Producer's Commentary they also reference the dual names, but again have no explanation other than to point out the fact that it seems to catch the attention of viewers.

Answer: I think it is spurious. The two may appear to be related but are not.
