Continuity mistake: This mistake is at the end of the film, when the Orcs are walking outside Saruman's tower going to catch the Hobbits. The colour of the sky changes between grey and blue. (02:20:00 - 02:21:00)
Continuity mistake: When Lurtz was about to kill Boromir, Aragorn knocked the Uruk-hai down. He falls, drops his bow and arrow, then he picks up a sword and shield off a dead Uruk. Once Aragorn and Lurtz start fighting, the dead bodies disappear. When the fight is over and Lurtz is dead, all the dead reappear. (02:40:43)
Continuity mistake: After the battle at Amon Hen, Frodo rescues Sam from drowning and pulls him into the boat. During their dialog in the boat, you can see that the boats' stern is pointed toward the bank of the river. There is one brief view of them from the riverbank where the side of the boat is facing the riverbank.
Revealing mistake: As the Uruks run through the woods of Amon Hen, in a close up of a log, the second foot to step on the log is actually a black spray-painted Nike. This is quite visible even without slow-mode, as the Nike symbol is raised on the shoe. (VHS version.)
Revealing mistake: When Gandalf is revealing Bilbo's ring as the One Ring to Frodo, he pulls Sam in through the window and onto a table. When it shows Gandalf looking at Sam, you can see that Sam's hand moves and is positioned in a rather odd way. This is because Sam in this shot is actually the rubber hand of a remote control dummy that they used instead of the actor. In the behind the scenes footage on the DVD you can see other shots of the dummy and Gandalf during this scene.
Continuity mistake: When the argument breaks out during the Council of Elrond, the elves are standing on the viewer's left, and the dwarves on the right. But when a reflection of them is seen in the Ring, the elves are still on the left side and the dwarves on the right side.
Revealing mistake: In the first shot of the Fellowship climbing the snow-covered mountain, if you look closely you can see the snow that's in front of them has already been messed-up and trod upon - apparently not the first take.
Continuity mistake: Near the beginning of the film, when Frodo and Gandalf are riding in his cart together talking, there are some close-up shots of just one character or the other. However, the background in the Frodo shots and the background in the Gandalf shots are moving at noticeably different speeds.
Continuity mistake: This is in the extended version only. When the hobbits are in the bar in Hobbiton, and Merry and Pippin are on the table singing, Frodo is skipping around the table singing too, with four mugs of ale in his hands. However, as he skips around, you can see that the mugs are empty, but he then puts them down in front of some other hobbits, and they have something in them.
Continuity mistake: When Aragorn is kneeling with the dying Boromir, the amount of blood on Aragorn's mouth/nose slowly decreases throughout the scene, though he never wipes his face.
Revealing mistake: After Boromir is shot twice, he turns around and kills one Uruk Hai, and then when he kills the second one, you can see the sword wiggle after he slices the enemy's legs.
Revealing mistake: At Rivendell when Frodo puts the Ring on the stone table in the middle and then Gimili says his, "I'd rather die than see the Ring in the hands of an Elf" Gandalf stands up an makes a sort of "you're out- like an umpire" move at someone while they are all arguing, when the camera is on the people. When they go to the reflection on the Ring, Gandalf makes the movement again. Clearly it is the same shot again.
Audio problem: In two shots at the end of Frodo and Gandalf's conversation in Moria (before the Fellowship enters Balin's tomb), Gandalf's beard is moving as if he were talking, but he doesn't say anything.
Visible crew/equipment: After Boromir picks up the Ring, while he's admiring it you can see the camera reflected in it.
Audio problem: When Bilbo and Frodo are reunited at Rivendell, Bilbo embraces Frodo and Bilbo's voice can be heard saying "Oh." But, his mouth is closed and could not have possibly said it.
Continuity mistake: When Arwen and Aragorn are talking on the bridge, she caresses his cheek and forehead. In the next shot, her hand is no longer on his face.
Continuity mistake: Before Bilbo leaves out the door for his journey, he has a tuft of hair that is high above his forehead. When he turns around to talk to Gandalf outside, his tuft of hair is not as tall as it was before.
Continuity mistake: At the very start of the film when Gandalf is in his wagon, Frodo stops him with: "You're late." Gandalf stops his wagon quite a way from the bank that Frodo appears on. Gandalf sternly delivers his line and moments later they both burst out laughing. Then Frodo almost steps onto the wagon which was much further from the bank during the first part of the exchange.
Continuity mistake: When Saruman is talking to Lurtz, Lurtz has black drool falling out of his mouth; but in the next shot, after Saruman asks who he serves, the drool is gone.
Revealing mistake: In the Prologue, in the shot where Elendil is thrown aside by Sauron and hits a rock and then falls to the ground, you can see his shoulder armor bend, which metal armor should not do. This is because the filmmakers used rubber armor for fighting scenes. This is confirmed on the DVD audio commentary.
Answer: The temptation of the Ring is directly proportional to the power and ambition of the bearer. To someone like Gandalf - a mighty wizard who wants to save the world - the temptation would, over time, prove to be too much, and he's realistic enough to understand that about himself. With an ordinary hobbit who only wants a nice meal and some peace and quiet, the Ring has a lot less to work with.
