Newsies

Continuity mistake: During the scene in the Jacobs' house when they get out the birthday cake, Sarah takes a plate of cake and begins to hand it to Jack. After she picks up the plate, she picks up a fork, putting it in the same hand as the plate. In the next shot, she hands the same plate to Jack, but there's no fork in her hand. In fact, Jack starts to reach for the fork, only to realize that it isn't there. Sarah hands him a fork a moment later (same shot). (00:25:20)

Continuity mistake: When they first decide to go on strike, they are walking out of the gate and David has papers in his hand. Later in the scene just before reaching for the statue he no longer has the papers in his hand anymore. (00:35:05)

Continuity mistake: The beginning of the "seize the day" scene, there's a shot of the statue, and it's all 'dressed up'. (Paper hat, strike sign, pink necklace, etc.) The camera shot changes, then when you see the statue again in the same scene, it's perfectly clean. (00:46:05 - 00:47:10)

Continuity mistake: When Medda is singing "high times, hard times" with the newsies, she skips down a walk way with Kid Blink and Racetrack. The shot changes to Jack and Sarah, then goes back to Medda singing. But the two boys who lift her onto the higher stage after she was skipping aren't Kid Blink or Racetrack. They're different newsies. And then a few shots later you see Racetrack and Kid Blink somewhere else, singing along. (01:14:10)

Continuity mistake: At 1:22:39 David throws the news article on the table but nowhere near Les. At 1:22:41 Les wraps his hotdog with the article that is within arm's length of him. (01:22:35)

Continuity mistake: As Jack Kelly rides the horse near the end of the "Santa Fe" sequence, his hat is waving behind him. When it cuts to a different angle the hat is on his head. Note: This was a specific detail put in by the director, symbolizing the boy's mental transition from New York to Santa Fe. However, it failed and is commonly seen as an editing mistake.

Continuity mistake: During the opening number, The kid with the brown, hard, top hat (as the boys are at the gate and when the Delancy Brothers are there) messes up the kids hair in fornt of him. When he puts his hat on correctly his hair is hanging down on the right side. Later his hat is off and when the camera switches angles a split second later, the hat returns.

Continuity mistake: Right after Jack and David get back from Brooklyn, the newsies are standing around a statue listening to Jack tell them the results of the visit to Spot. Racetrack is smoking a cigarette. He says, "Maybe we should hold off for a while" (or something to that effect), and then puts the cigarette to his mouth. The shot changes angles and Racetrack's hand is down by his side. There's no way he could have moved that quickly.

Continuity mistake: In the opening Song "Carrying the Banner" Jack is talking to Mush and turns away from him as he is trying to button his pants, his shirt is tucked in as well. After he lathers his face and throws shaving cream at Mush he starts to sing and if you look, his pants appears buttoned and his shirt is hanging out.

Continuity mistake: During "Seize the day Number' there are 2 boys on the statue, mere seconds later there are four boys and we see one get down, but in the next shot there are 5 boys on the statue.

Continuity mistake: During "Seize the Day" Mush is wiping off with a white towel, and then when he starts to sing, he reaches for the towel again. There is no other towel visible for him to be reaching for.

Continuity mistake: At 22:50 a guy is waving a sign that says: "Trolley strike unfair to workers" in front of the Magazine store and behind the boys. At 22:57, on a wide angle, he is gone.

Continuity mistake: Towards the end of the movie when the newsies are standing by the large statue and all of the other children start coming, there is a shot of all the newsies together and you can see Spot in the background. In the shot right after, Spot is shown leading the Brooklyn newsies.

Continuity mistake: The Delancy brothers are chasing jack (at the rally) with Morris the closest to him. As he reachs up to grab Jack, to keep him from jumping, the camera cuts to his feet and his hands are missing, as he jumps to safety.

Continuity mistake: The Soaking scene. The wagon is covered. All of a sudden the wagon is bare (top) as the Boys tip it over which spills all of the papers. Then after the kids at racetrack are throwing bundles off of the wagon, the wagon is covered again and upright, while seconds later it is back on it's side.

Question: During the song "The World Will Know," Jack climbs up onto the balcony of the World building to write the word "Strike" on the headline chalkboards. As he's climbing, between lines of the song, you can hear him yelling. All I can hear of the first line is "Pulitzer." I'm pretty sure the second line is "You think you own the world." Anybody know what he's saying there?

Answer: This website has the lyrics to that song: http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/newsies/theworldwillknow.htm.
