Jurassic World Dominion

Years after the destruction of Isla Nublar and Jurassic World, dinosaurs are now living around the world alongside humans and animals. On the ocean, a crab fishing boat is capsized when the Mosasaurus attacks it, presumably killing the crew members. Former Jurassic World staff members Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) are raising Maisie as their daughter. Scientists at InGen's rival company, Biosyn, have created locusts which are decimating crops.

Lewis Dodgson (Campbell Scott), the villain who originally hired Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) to steal dinosaur embryos with the Barbasol shaving cream can, is the CEO of Biosyn. Dodgson has sent a team of his henchmen, led by poacher Rainn Delacourt (Scott Haze), to capture Maisie and Velociraptor Blue's baby Beta in order to use their DNA for their own purposes. Delacourt and his men capture Maisie and Beta, forcing Owen and Claire to embark on a rescue mission. While tracking Delacourt, Owen and Claire learn from former Jurassic World staff member Franklin Webb (Justice Smith) that Delacourt has taken Maisie and Beta to a dinosaur black market in Malta. Unfortunately, Maisie and Beta have been taken to Biosyn by the time Owen and Claire arrive, which they learn from former Jurassic World employee Barry Sembene (Omar Sy). Owen chases Delacourt through the black market.

After fighting Owen, Delacourt reveals Maisie and Beta's location, but a Lystrosaurus and a Carnotaurus pin Delacourt to the floor. Delacourt is eaten by both dinosaurs. Meanwhile, Ellie Satler (Laura Dern) and Alan Grant (Sam Neill), survivors of the original Jurassic Park, travel to Biosyn to investigate the locust problem, and are reunited with Jurassic Park survivor Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), now one of Dodgson's employees. They eventually discover the locusts in a lab and realise Dodgson is behind the decimation of the crops. Pilot Kayla Watts (DeWanda Wise) flies Owen and Claire to Biosyn, and they rescue Maisie and Beta. Dodgson burns the majority of the locusts, but some escape to the forest and start a forest fire.

Dodgson takes dinosaur embryos hidden inside the same Barbasol can he gave Nedry (it is unknown how Dodgson found the can, though it is possible Delacourt acquired it for him) and attempts to escape using a hyper loop, but the power shuts down, trapping Dodgson in a tunnel. Three Dilophosaurus spit venom into Dodgson's eyes, blinding him before devouring him. Ironically, Dodgson dies the same way Nedry died. The heroes encounter a Giganotosaurus, but Rexy and a Therizinosaurus battle and kill the Giganotosaurus. The heroes escape with Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong), who discovers a way to end the locust problem. Beta is brought back to Blue, and the crimes of Biosyn are ultimately exposed. Dinosaurs now co-exist with animals throughout the world, no longer confined to paddocks with electric fences.

Factual error: As the C-119 cargo plane is going down over the Bio-Syn reservoir, the right wing snaps off, separating completely from the aircraft. As a result of upward lift forces pushing upward on the left wing no longer being countered by an equal lift force from the right wing, the aircraft would roll very quickly to the right. However, after the right wing separates, and just before the scene cuts away, the C-119 dips to the left.

Trivia: Bryce Dallas Howard has stated that the studio pressured her into losing weight for the first two films in the trilogy. When this third film came about, she fought back, and director Colin Trevorrow supported her. Since both Howard and Trevorrow have more clout now due to their success in Hollywood, the studio finally relented and Howard was able to make the movie with her natural body. She said this helped with her stunt work and performance, since she wasn't weak from forced weight loss.

Question: When we first see Alan Grant, he and his team are excavating old dinosaur bones. Given that this is a time when Dinosaurs roam freely on earth, why is he even bothering? He could learn far more from simply studying a live dinosaur than its bones. And secondly, given that dinosaurs are alive and free, who is gonna have the slightest interest in bones that are millions of years old. I considered this a goof, but I'm opened to any explanations.

Gavin Jackson

Answer: The live dinosaurs are genetically tweaked recreations, they're not the "pure" dinosaurs of the past, which would still be of great interest. Plus just like any other archaeology or historical study, there's always more to be learned about the past, and a great many people are interested in what the past has to teach us.

Answer: Agree with the other answer but would add that while to date about 1000 species of dinosaurs have been identified, it is believed there are at least 1,000 more types that existed and are still to be discovered and studied. Only a tiny fraction of the known species were cloned by In-Gen and Biosyn, and, as noted in the other answer, they are not genetically pure. Also, there is much to learn about dinosaurs' habitat, range, species evolution and decline, mating habits, health and diet, the existing climate at the time, and so on. That would be why paleontologists like Alan Grant continue digging.

Answer: The existing answers are good. In the movie, Alan Grant actually asked, "Why do we dig?" and answered his question, "Because paleontology is science [fossil animals and plants], and science is about the truth. And there is truth in these rocks." [00:20:52].
