Lucy Eleanor Moderatz works for the Chicago Transit Authority in the ticket booth for the el. Her mother died when she was little and her father passed away a couple of years ago. There's a man who comes to her booth at about 8:30 every day and in her opinion, he's perfect and one day, she dreams of marrying him. The only problem is that she doesn't know his name and has never spoken to him. This is about to change though.It's almost Christmas and because she has no family, she has to work on Christmas Day.
Mr Charming (aka Peter Callaghan) comes to the station and promptly gets pushed onto the tracks by a couple of kids and is knocked unconscious. Lucy runs out to rescue him, jumping onto the tracks and pulling him out of the way of an oncoming express train.At the hospital, she's not allowed to see him and when she quietly sighs that she was going to marry him, she is overheard by a nurse who takes her up to the Intensive Treatment Unit. When Peter's family arrives, Lucy is mistakenly introduced as his fiance.

Continuity mistake: When Lucy is in the Callaghan's house at Christmas at the very end of the scene it shows her stocking and her name on it is in white letters. However, in the scene where Mary comes in and tells the family that Lucy is pregnant, the camera pans to Jack who is standing right beside Lucy's stocking, only this time her name is in black letters.
Saul: Did you know I'm Peter's godfather?
Lucy: Really? I thought you had to be catholic for that.
Saul: Ox fudged it over. He donated 50 folding chairs to Father O'Shea's bingo night.
Trivia: The first version of the screenplay had the main roles gender swapped. It was deemed too "predatory" to have a woman in a coma and a man claiming to be in a relationship with her.
Question: I've seen this movie a million times and I still can't figure out the whole "Peter having one testicle because another guy had a pencil in his back pocket because he was a lawyer while they were playing basketball" thing. I got that they were playing basketball but still, can someone please explain to me how Peter lost a testicle while playing a game? Thank you.

Answer: Peter was being boxed out by the other guy, so the other guy was putting his back against Peter's front. With a pencil sticking out of his back pocket, you can imagine how some damage might be done.
