Beauty and the Beast

Continuity mistake: When Maurice is walking away from his house the tree next to the house is shaped slightly differently than the in the last shot of the house before that.

Continuity mistake: The brightness of the yellow quivers of Gaston's arrows change during the final scenes. For instance, when he's outside and yells "But remember, the beast is mine!" they are quite dark yellow, but as he puts one in his quiver to shoot the beast, they are bright yellow.

Continuity mistake: When the Beast brings Belle into the library, the axis on the globe goes all the way through. A few seconds later, the globe is shown again, and now the axis only goes halfway up the globe.

Continuity mistake: During the brawl between the villagers and the objects, Lefou holds a torch in front of Lumiere. Wax drips down all over his face. In the next shot of Lumiere, the wax is gone.

Continuity mistake: It is said that the magical rose will start to wither until the Beast's 21st birthday, and in the song 'Be our Guest', everyone sings "It's ten years since we've had anybody here, and we're obsessed". So that would make the Beast only 11 years old when he turned away the Enchantress that put a spell on him, however he is portrayed as being much older-looking.

Continuity mistake: When Lefou runs out of the castle, he is missing one shoe. In the next shot, outside the castle, if you look closely he has both shoes on.

Continuity mistake: Cogsworth's height as a human keeps changing in the final minute or so of the film. For instance, when he first transforms from a clock into a man, he comes up to about half of Lumiere's head, but when they argue, Cogsworth is taller than that. Then in the last shot, as it zooms out as Belle and the prince are dancing, he doesn't even come up to Lumiere's shoulders.

Continuity mistake: When Maurice enters the castle, the bolts on the doors are golden. Later in this scene, the bolts change to black.

Continuity mistake: During the song "Gaston", Le Fou ties a belt around Gaston's neck and Gaston pops it off with his neck muscles, but then it disappears from the floor.

Suggested correction: No, it doesn't. Gaston puts the belt in his chair.

Continuity mistake: When Gaston breaks that part of the castle off to hit Beast with it, that piece is rather short and stout (maybe 3 feet long). But a couple shots later when Beast grabs onto it, it seems to be a good 5 feet or so long and very thin.

Continuity mistake: Early in the film, Gaston throws Belle's book into the mud and she wipes it off with her white dress. However, no mud appears on her dress after she does this.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where the villagers try to take away Maurice, the position of the vines over the cellar doors changes between shots.

Continuity mistake: When the Beast and Belle are in front of the fireplace reading the book, a pot magically appears next to the coat hanger.

Continuity mistake: When Maurice first comes to the castle, there is no smoke from any of the chimneys, even though we later see that there is a fire inside.

Continuity mistake: In the opening shot of Belle's house, the gates are in the shape of Z's. Later, as she comes out of her house after Gaston has proposed saying "Me, the wife of that boorish, brainless." the gates are in the shape of X's.

Continuity mistake: When Belle approaches the door to let in Gaston, there is a plate near the door that is significantly circular. When Gaston comes in a few seconds later, the plate is more oval-shaped.

Continuity mistake: In the song "Provincial Life" Belle is sitting on the edge of the fountain reading her book. Between shots she moves further away from the fountain.

Continuity mistake: Belle opens the door outward so Gaston falls out, but after she throws his shoes at him, she slams it shut from the inside. (00:18:00)

Trivia: When Gaston has his feet on the table at Belle's house, a bit of the mud strongly resembles Mickey Mouse's head. This follows the long standing Disney tradition of having "hidden Mickeys" in their movies.

More trivia for Beauty and the Beast

Question: The timing of the Beast's curse has always confused me. The movie states he has until the rose wilts completely to break the spell, and that said rose will bloom until his twenty first year. So was the Beast's deadline his 21st birthday or would the rose begin to wilt on his 21st birthday and he would then have only a little under a year (judging from how much time appears to pass in the film) till all the petals fell off?

Answer: The Rose started wilting at The Beast's 21st birthday and could have presumably started wilting years before the first time we saw a petal fall off. Given the fact that Lumiere stated that they were living with the curse for 10 years, prince Adam could be 23-24 years old at the time of the original movie,13-14 at the time of the curse, and the Rose could have been wilting for two to three years. This is my best guess given the approximate age of Prince Adam in the ripped up portrait before he was the Beast.

Answer: I would assume it would be until his 21st birthday, as that is really the 21st year since his birth. After his 21st birthday he'd be older than 21.
