Revealing mistake: In the scene where Bond is trapped in Largo's shark-infested pool, he uses his mini air tank to breathe. In most of the subsequent shots, look closely at the actor's face - it looks a lot more like a stuntman than Sean Connery. (01:20:20)
Continuity mistake: Vargas is behind Bond when he is on the beach talking to Domino. Bond turns and shoots a harpoon at Vargas. In the previous shot Vargas was walking towards Bond and Domino and was not near a tree. But when he is hit in the next shot, he gets pinned to a tree with the harpoon. (01:38:45)
Plot hole: The Disco Volante puts to sea and Bond comes aboard disguised as one of the divers. Largo tells the captain to set course to Miami Beach. After being exposed and captured within the underwater cave, Bond is eventually rescued by Leiter in a helicopter. Bond tells him that the Volante's course is Miami Beach and that the bombs are transferred to a wreck on Fowley Point. There is no mention of Fowley Point before - the wreck just serves as a location for the final underwater fight. (01:53:00)
Continuity mistake: When James Bond is fighting underwater with an opponent, the opponent rips off James' diving mask (which is blue). Then, James rips another mask off another opponent who is lying dead on the ocean floor. This dead opponent's mask is black. James puts on the black mask, and then he turns around, and the mask is blue again. (01:57:10)
Continuity mistake: When the Disco Volante separates to escape the cruisers firing on it, the "cocoon" is seen facing the pursuing ships stern-first. When the shot changes to show the gunners firing on the ships, the back half of the "cocoon" has turned completely around. The gunners are firing from the separated mid-section of the Volante, and the stern of the "cocoon" is now facing away from the cruisers, making it easy to see which parts of the scene were filmed live and which were done in the studio.
Continuity mistake: When Disco Volante drops the stern and speeds away, the right ski, where Bond is supposed to hang on, is visible. But he's not there.
Audio problem: In the final chase, when Largo says "jettison cocoon," his mouth does not match the words.
Character mistake: When Angelo sets the Vulcan down in the sea, he blows the canopy and extends the landing gear. As the plane settles, he attempts to release his harness, then has his air line cut by Largo. He futilely beats on the harness release when all he had to do was pull the face curtain handles to trigger the ejection seat, which would not only blow him clear of the plane but would separate him from the seat itself. Having trained for two years for this specific mission, he would undoubtedly be familiar with ejection procedures.
Character mistake: When Q gives Bond his gadgets, he tells him the watch is a Geiger counter, and the camera is infrared. However, Bond gives Domino the camera and tells her it is a Geiger counter.
Continuity mistake: When Bond is being chased through the parade, they show the float with the girls on it. In the background, behind it as it rolls by, is a red sign that says "The Perfume Shop". Later, Bond is seen running up to the float and going inside of it to hide. When Fiona runs up to the float and sees the blood on it, the red sign is still visible, which means it was not really moving in the parade at all.
Continuity mistake: When Bond and Domino are walking along the beach in shallow water, Domino stands on a poison quill spine with her right foot. But when is Bond sucking the poison out, he does so from her left foot because Domino displays the injured foot as the left one.
Revealing mistake: When Bond goes into the hotel room and finds the girl in the bath, he gives her a pair of gold shoes. She gets out of the bath with the towel wrapped around her. However, when you look in the mirror, you can see that she has a pair of white pants on.
Continuity mistake: Bond opens the door to the bathroom, and finds Fiona Volpe in the bath. He stands by the door, and when he's talking takes a step forward. The next shot, he's standing by the door again.
Other mistake: During the sequence where Bond flees the baddies during the carnival, it becomes clear that the locals made their own outfits. For a few seconds, we see a group with headpieces that read "007" - so much for "secret" agent. To add a bit of humour to the moment, a dog can be seen urinating against the passing parade.
Continuity mistake: Bond swims to the beach after inspecting the underside of the Disco Valante for the first time. As he walks out onto the shore, he is carrying his fins and he is wearing a red wetsuit jacket, black shorts and has a knife scabbard attached to his right leg. In this shot it is also clear to see that he is barefoot. He tosses the fins aside and unzips his jacket to remove it. After a quick edit he is tossing the jacket aside and he is now inexplicably wearing shoes and has somehow lost the diver's knife scabbard attached to his leg. There was no way to have acquired the shoes and lost the scabbard in that instant.
Revealing mistake: When James Bond and Felix have found the missing plane, look at the colour of the water as the helicopter lands, it is evident that is landing in shallow water, (they are supposed to be in much deeper water with sharks swimming below them) you can see the sand below. If the helicopter had landed on deeper water, the water colour would be dark blue.
Continuity mistake: When Domino is on the beach with 007 she is given a dog tag belonging to her deceased brother, in one shot she has both hands on the tag and moves her right arm to the sandy floor but midway through a sentence the shot turns to a different angle where she has both arms on the tag again.
Continuity mistake: During the underwater fight scene at the end, Largo does not have his eye patch on under his diving mask, but when he comes onto the Disco Volante he has his mask on his forehead with the eye patch underneath.
Continuity mistake: When Bond is examining the canal behind Palymra and he comes swimming, he has bare feet. But when he climbs the stairs from the water he is wearing shoes.
Factual error: The second blackmail message from SPECTRE tells the British that they must drop the ransom diamonds in a container "off the coast of Burma, in the Mergui archipelago, latitude 20 degrees north, longitude 60 degrees east." Unfortunately, 20 N, 60 E is nowhere near Burma. It's right off the coast of Oman in the Arabian peninsula, all the way on the other side of India from Burma. The actual coordinates for the Mergui archipelago are approximately 13 N 97 E. I guess there wasn't a map handy....
Chosen answer: Geiger counters show when radiation, even faint traces, are present. Therefore, if nuclear weapons were there recently, it will register. The scientist told Domino he threw the detonators overboard so the bombs could not explode. Also, nukes are surprisingly durable. Being in a large explosion will not detonate the core, only a specific chain reaction will.
