Ten Commandments

Factual error: During Moses' comeback from his Ethiopia campaign, as soon as he presents himself to Pharaoh Seti, he says, "I bring you - Ethiopia!" This is an anachronism, as Ethiopia was known as ABYSSINIA in ancient times much like Siam was to Thailand and Ceylon was to Sri Lanka.

Suggested correction: This is an example of translation convention. In real life, Moses would been speaking Egyptian or Hebrew. This is being "translated" into English for the audience in a way that they can understand. This is similar to when some Bible translations translate something like "the third day of the week" to "Tuesday." It's not incorrect, it's just translation.

Continuity mistake: When the movie ends, Sephora rests against Moses' shoulder and places her left arm on his body. From the angle shot from behind, she is away from him and her left arm is signaling the horizon. Back to the front shot, and she is in the previous position.

Other mistake: When Nefritiri rushes to Moses and cries, "I will not live if you must die," in the next shot as Ramses pulls Nefritiri away, the dark outlines of Charlton Heston's modern-day briefs are visible under the ragged garment he's wearing. (01:35:25)

Continuity mistake: When Bithiah brings the cradle ashore the way the towel on the left is folded changes between shots.

Audio problem: After the Red Sea parts, and almost all of the Hebrews are across the dry expanse, the pillar of fire holding Pharaoh back disappears, and the chariots head into the expanse themselves to pursue the Hebrews. A very young Hebrew boy at the rear of the masses says 'Look, Grandpa! Pharaoh and his men are coming!' and points at them with his free hand. Watch his mouth: the child is merely moving his lower jaw up and down. Apparently the child actor was too young to learn any lines so the producers improvised.

Continuity mistake: The distance between Rameses and Moses alternates from elbow to elbow to about three feet apart as the shots change when the duo are facing Seti during the Ethiopian tribute scene.

Continuity mistake: When Nefertiri and Moses are saying their goodbyes in the cave, his shackled right hand starts to stroke the upper left side of Nefertiri's hair, but the next cut shows Moses' hand lower down.

Continuity mistake: At the end when Moses reaches out to the tablets, in the first shot he has nothing in his hand, second shot he has something black which at first looks like sunglasses, and in the third shot his hand is empty again.

Question: As Rameses is getting dressed by his servants, Nefretiri stops one servant and takes a sword from him. The shot then cuts to Rameses getting dressed and then Nefretiri comes to give him the sword. What exactly did she do with it: did she stab her dead son (who is placed on that statue), or did she do something else?

Answer: She gave the sword to Ramses and told him to bring it back with Moses' blood on it.

Answer: I have always thought she stabbed her dead son. It's obvious she does something with it other than just give it to Rameses.

She doesn't do anything other than give him the sword. She's trying to dramatically convince Ramses to kill Moses. In countless stories, one character will tell another character to kill someone while handing them a weapon.

Answer: She didn't do anything with it. She took the sword so she could help dress her husband herself.
