Continuity mistake: In the opening shot, some soldiers scare off a group of kids and they begin running away in the opposite direction. There are eight kids shown initially, but when they run past Sook-Hee in the next shot, only four of them are shown. (00:02:10)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee is standing outside in the rain before leaving, she is shown holding an umbrella whilst it rains. She walks over to say goodbye, whilst still holding onto it. A second later, she leans in to kiss a baby on the head, and the umbrella is no longer there. It is shown later that she placed the umbrella on the ground, but she was not shown doing this earlier in the scene. It just disappears in between shots. (00:02:20)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee is saying goodbye to her friends, just as Kutan starts saying "It should have been me", Gugai is shown holding two babies, one with short hair on his left and one with thick hair on his right. The camera changes angles and the babies have suddenly switched places. The babies also become raised up towards his shoulder in between shots. (00:02:53)
Continuity mistake: Just as Sook-Hee finishes saying goodbye, Kutan starts saying she should be the one going instead of her. It then cuts to a different angle where Sook-Hee is shown reaching her hand out to brush her hair. At the start of the shot, Sook-Hee's hand is inches away from Kutan's hair and would have been visible in the previous shot. (00:02:54)
Continuity mistake: Boksun gives Sook-Hee a bag which she places on top of her head and holds onto with her left hand. When the shot cuts, her left hand is now reaching out for a suitcase that is being handed to her with the bag is now being held by the bottom of her umbrella. (00:03:00)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee is in the car on the way to Kouzuki's mansion, she takes out the hairpin in her hair. Four of her fingers are placed against the back of it and her fingers are shown in a straight angle. A close-up shot of the hairpin is shown and Sook-Hee's fingers are now in a curled angle. Continuity mistake: When Sasaki is showing Sook-Hee through the mansion, Sook-Hee begins walking up a few steps. The camera changes to a different angle where Sook-Hee has suddenly rotated 90° to her right to face the stairs in front of her. (00:05:30)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee is walking up the stairs whilst Sasaki is escorting her through the mansion, she looks at a painting of Hideko as a child. It cuts back to Sook-Hee beginning to turn around a corner in the stairs, but in the next shot, she is further up the staircase. (00:05:38)
Deliberate mistake: When Sook-Hee is first shown her bed chamber, just after Sasaki leaves, she slides open the door to Hideko's room to look inside. After a 5-6 second silence, a thump sound is heard and Sook-Hee quickly closes the door. Later in the movie, when this same scene is shown a second time from Hideko's perspective, the thump sound, which is revealed to be Hideko banging her doll against the wall, occurs 11-12 seconds after Sook-Hee slides the door open. Continuity mistake: When Fujiwara finds the hidden drawer in the staircase, he pulls out the drawer and has his left hand at his side. In the next shot, his left hand is suddenly touching the staircase bannister. (00:09:55)
Continuity mistake: When Fujiwara places the wooden Buddha on the table, his hat is on one of the curved hangers on the coat stand. It cuts to a close up of Fujiwara, before cutting back to the original camera angle, where his hat has now moved onto an upright hanger on the stand. (00:10:10)
Continuity mistake: When Fujiwara begins explaining how Kouzuki hires specialists to create forgeries of books and paintings, he raises his left hand pointing his finger forwards. The camera cuts to a different angle where his left hand is now pointing towards the left. (00:11:07)
Continuity mistake: When Fujiwara is explaining his plan to rob Kouzuki to Sook-Hee and the others, he places his cigarette case on the table to represent Kouzuki and a small vase on the table to represent Hideko. In between the cigarette case and vase is a wooden Buddha he placed earlier in the scene. It cuts to an angle from behind the table looking up at the characters, where we can see the vase, but not the wooden Buddha. (00:11:23)
Continuity mistake: When Fujiwara walks over to Sook-Hee to take back the lighter she pickpocketed from him, Sook-Hee is shown looking at Fujiwara whilst he approaches her. The camera then cuts to a close-up of Fujiwara's hand where Sook-Hee is suddenly facing away from him. (00:12:22)
Continuity mistake: When Hideko is showing Sook-Hee the photo of her mother, Hideko is holding the closeable photo frame with two fingers. One finger is near to the edge of the left hand side photo. The other finger is beside it on the centre of the frame. A close-up shot of the photo is shown, where the finger Hideko had on the edge of the left hand side of the frame is now in the middle and the finger beside it is now on the frame on the right hand side. Continuity mistake: When Hideko is showing Sook-Hee her wardrobe of shoes, in the shot of her saying "But in new shoes, even well-trodden paths feel fresh", she has her left hand on the wardrobe door and is raised to be level with her head. She then begins to move her hand away from the door, but when the shot cuts, her left hand is down at her side. (00:19:08)
Continuity mistake: When Hideko runs into the bathroom to throw up, she places her hands on the counter and starts vomiting into the sink. It then cuts to a close-up of Hideko, where she is now holding onto the frame of the sink whilst vomiting. (Extended Cut). (00:19:15)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee first goes to the library, she slides the door open. Once she finishes sliding the door open, she still has her left hand on the door frame. It cuts to an angle from behind where her hand is now off the door frame and being pulled away. (00:21:20)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee is giving Hideko a bath, Hideko puts a lollipop in her mouth and takes it out after her tooth hurts. The lollipop is shown below her mouth line when she takes it out, but when the shot cuts, the lollipop is now raised above her mouth line. (00:22:40)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee leaves to go get something for Hideko's sharp tooth, Hideko begins putting the lollipop in her mouth. The shot cuts to Sook-Hee coming back into her room and the lollipop is mostly out of her mouth. (00:23:04)
