Continuity mistake: Sidney tells her friend Hal that she doesn't think she's going to be able to make it to the martini mixer party. Hal goes "Whaaaaaaa?" as she is folding a cute pink thingie, which rests in her lap. In the background in the next shot we see the pink fluffy towel is now further down on her knees. (00:13:55)
Continuity mistake: A pimple is visible on Sidney's chin as she says goodbye to Derek before getting into her ride with the two detectives and Hallie. Minutes later, in the scenes inside the car, the pimple has completely disappeared, even in the very extreme closeups.
Continuity mistake: When Derek dies after being shot, tied up on the stage prop, his head slumps down with it looking down to his right towards Sid with his forehead tilted to the left. When it cuts to another angle at a close up of Sid, suddenly his head is tilted the other direction. (01:37:40)
Continuity mistake: Cici throws a plant at Ghostface as she's running away from him, but it barely slows him down. They round a corner around the banister and he is chasing her right behind her, only about 2 or 3 feet behind her at most. But then it cuts to another shot and suddenly she's down a hallway and instantly put a lot of distance between herself and Ghostface before he's even entering the hall. (00:34:40)
Revealing mistake: When the killer kills Hallie you can plainly see the stuntman's eyes through the mask eyeholes. (01:32:00)
Continuity mistake: After the accident - when the car is seen from behind - you can't see the killer (it's before Sid crawls over him).
Continuity mistake: When the girl - during the Stab film - touches her boyfriend's jacket and gets blood on her hands - in the second clip there is much more blood on her hands than in the first clip. (00:10:10)
Factual error: When Cici is about to be killed she throws the phone onto the floor without hanging up yet the killer calls her again and the phone rings. Surely it would be engaged if she had not hung up. (00:33:05)
Suggested correction: Before she throws the phone on the floor, you can hear specifically the tone indicating that she pushed the button to end the conversation. The dramatic horror movie riff fires off right at that time so you may have to pay extra attention to pick up the sound before the string section assaults your ears, but the beep is there.
Revealing mistake: Towards the beginning, when Gale Weathers is talking to the sheriff who is standing at a podium, you see Mickey filming her with a hand-held camera. A panning shot going right following Mickey with some friends walking sideways reveals him looking at the camera twice. This is because he was waiting for his cue to stop. (00:20:50)
Continuity mistake: In the beginning where Jada Pinkett Smith is stabbed in the back, you see a white girl to her right look down at her arm as Jada's blood lands on her. If you watch the background closely as Jad is dying and stumbling around, the same girl is still looking around, as if it just happened. (00:10:10)
Audio problem: At the theater showdown, Mickey shoots Gale and Sidney says, "Gale," but her mouth is closed.
Continuity mistake: In the make-out scene with Gale and Dewey, Gale's lipstick is smeared on her face, but there's none on Dewey's face.
Other mistake: Maureen gets popcorn and a coke, yet doesn't pay for it. Nor does the cashier ask for money. (00:04:45)
Suggested correction: To be fair, she asked her boyfriend for some money, he gave her a note, which she holds in hand in that scene making her order and, almost certainly if we go by the arm movements, puts on the counter. If what she ordered required no change, nothing more was needed in the exchange. It's not as if she just went to the counter, didn't have any money with her, was fully on camera all the time and got her order sorted.
Suggested correction: We are not shown her hands. She could easily have put the bill on the counter. If we saw her hands the whole time and she did not pay, it would be a mistake. But if we only see her face, how can we assume what she did with her hand? After all, we do not see the hand. It is off-screen.
Continuity mistake: When Sidney leaves her dorm room to head for the shower and Hallie follows, you can see the open wardrobe by the dorm door, and there is a jumper visible hanging from the wardrobe door. But when they walk back into the room to look at the news on TV, the jumper has moved and now there is a bag visible in front of it as well. (00:13:05 - 00:13:50)
Continuity mistake: When Phil and Maureen enter the cinema, Phil puts his arm around Maureen's shoulder. But in the next shot his hand is placed on her back instead. (00:01:40)
Audio problem: When Gail and Dewy are watching the tape of their conversation in the park, the sound of their conversation is way too clear taking into account their distance from the camera and the microphone, and there is no ambient noise at all. (01:14:15)
Revealing mistake: At the start when Phil Stephens is being stabbed, when the killer draws back the knife you can see there is already blood on the knife. Its only there for a second so you have to look carefully. (00:07:45)
Continuity mistake: In her room at the start, Sid's hair is a little bit over her eye. She talks to her roomate and walks out of the room. The next shot her hair is perfectly behind her ear, but she didn't have time to put it back. (00:13:05)
Continuity mistake: Cotton shoots the killer, who when lying down has a giant hole in their throat. It wasn't there when both the killer and Sidney were falling backwards. (01:48:40 - 01:49:05)
Continuity mistake: When Sidney incredulously asks "Mrs...Loomis?" her left hand is raised at shoulder level, but her arm is straight in the next shot. (01:40:20)
