The Poseidon Adventure

Question: How is it that when Ackers falls in the large body of water (assumingly boiling) in the funnel, he dies - yet Mr. Rogo jumping in to try to help is submerged for many seconds underwater and then climbs out alive and overall, not burned?

Answer: Because he doesn't boil, there's no suggestion that the water is that hot. After Ackers falls in, and while Rogo tries to save him, there are two large explosions in the shaft; we can presume that, while Rogo was able to escape, Ackers was injured/trapped/otherwise incapacitated below the surface, and drowned.

Answer: He's the representative of the owner of the ship.

Answer: There's nothing specific reported about them, but other actors have also expressed disliking working with Shelley Winters. Stella Stevens, who was also in Poseidon, mentioned not getting along with Winters on another movie they made together because she was drinking at the time. Winters had a rather ditzy and brash personality that annoyed some people, which is probably what Albertson was referring to.

Moreover, Albertson once said, "The happiest moment making the movie for me was when she died."

Audio problem: Just before midnight when the band is playing "Morning After" the camera pans out for a wide shot of the dance floor - the dancers are dancing MUCH too fast for such a slow song - and you do still hear the song.

Trivia: The look of the set for the upside down engine room was so real, the actors refused to climb anything, fearing that it would fall. The set designer and builders had to climb it first to prove it would hold.
