Factual error: When Steve Carell is telling his nephew Jesse Eisenberg that he is leaving his wife, the view from his 1930s era Hollywood Hills home shows the modern skyscraper-filled LA downtown skyline.
Continuity mistake: The sun angle changes several times during the chase sequence when the dragon is on the flatbed truck.
Continuity mistake: When Kurt and Kavi are washing clothes, the clothes change position on the line, specifically the red shirt at the end and the shorts Kavi hangs up. The red shirt is twisted around the line, but in the shot of Kavi hanging the shorts, the shirt is hanging perfectly straight down.
Continuity mistake: When Maggie tells Nick "Call me", a cop with a beret walks behind her. Couple shots later when she is going up the stairs, same cop, same place, same movement. (00:27:00)
Factual error: When Joe and his girlfriend, who is also Albert White's mistress, walk through the hotel room kitchen, that whole kitchen, is not a 30's era kitchen. It even has a convection oven and a blast chiller, pan racks, etc. that are more from this time.
Audio problem: In the final conversation between Limus and Bardot, the robotic effect usually applied to her voice is missing.
Continuity mistake: Maureen spent the first night in the spooky house, without conclusive results. They are meeting the prospect buyers in a bar. When Lara walks up to them and begins the conversation, the arm position of the man changes wildly between shots several times at every cut. (00:08:40)
Other mistake: Augustina approaches "Bill at the bar. The bar's clock shows it's 9:12. The two go on to talk for over 2 minutes of real time, and she says "it was so 10 minutes ago" when he quotes an earlier bit of the conversation; no matter how much time it passed, the clock did not advance. Continuity mistake: The protagonist is fondling his pregnant wife in bed when she pinches his nose. Between the two shots the blanket covers /uncovers the baby bump, and her hair is bunched on the pillow in entirely different ways. (00:01:40)
Revealing mistake: When the Creature is telling Louis the "Bat Story," the Creature is holding a burning torch in its right hand against a wholly-dark background. It becomes apparent that the shots of the creature are actually Dutch Angle shots (the angle of the camera is rotated about 45°), because the smoke from the torch is not rising straight upwards; rather, the smoke is rising at a 45° angle toward the upper left corner of the screen.
Continuity mistake: The level of snake wine changes in the glass as the camera cuts back and forth during the conversation in the Chinese restaurant between Jeff and Tim.
Revealing mistake: Set in Pittsburgh, PA, scenes were obviously filmed out of sequence. Many scenes were "out of sync" with the snowfall, whether in progress or amount (if any) already accumulated. For example, there was no snow downtown, but views from the helicopter showed snow-cover around the nearby parkway (Route 376). In another scene, it was snowing when Ryan turned his Jeep into a downtown road that was covered with at least one inch of snow; switching to a "live" newscast, the sun was shining outside.
Factual error: The presidents of South Africa, South West Africa and the Rhodesias all object to Seretse and Ruth's marriage. But the head of state of all these countries and territories at the time was King George VI. None of them had presidents.
Revealing mistake: The "snow" is obviously fake and it is largely absent on the left third of the screen and, to a lesser extent, the right side. Although it apparently recently started snowing, the snow was not melting when it hit the pavement, which would mean it was cold enough for snow to also "stick" onto metal vehicles (but did not) and the car pulling into the alley should have left tire tracks. At various spots throughout the movie, "snowfall" is spotty and irregular. (00:26:48)
Continuity mistake: Carolyn puts on her pink dress and asks Tallulah to zip her up. Tammy Blanchard puts her hair up in a bunch, but there's a large bang to the left side of her face that stays down. In the reverse shot though, she got all her hair up. (00:18:20)
Factual error: The 5th Amendment to the Constitution simply states that "No person... shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself." There is no actual or implied provision that means once you have answered a question, you can't plead the 5th on any subsequent questions, as the movie depicts.
Continuity mistake: In the first scene, the old alien man comes to pick up his spaceship and Ratchet instructs him to "Now, let's fire up that mag booster." The old alien pushes the switch forward to start the mag booster. Later in the movie, Ratchet flips the switch backwards to "engage mag booster" as Clank commands. (00:06:30 - 00:26:30)
Other mistake: The typewriter ribbon in Gemma Arterton's typewriter looks to be installed upside down, with the red half of the ribbon showing above the black half.
Factual error: During the scene when Ed the I.T. guy is working on his laptop to fix the problem with the presentation, his laptop is sitting on top of a couple of Cisco network switches with cables connected to them. The ports on the front of the switch where the cables are plugged in would have flashing lights on to show power and connectivity, as well as lights on the left-hand side of the device as we are looking at it, no lights are present which suggests it is not powered up and connected to anything. Continuity mistake: In front of the station, the con man bargains with the taxi driver the fare; during the scene, the same black man with a floral shirt passes at least 3 times. (00:01:30)
