Trivia: When all the Avengers are attempting to lift Thor's hammer, Captain America is able to move it slightly. In the comics, Cap is one of the few characters noble enough to be able to lift Thor's hammer (notable others being Storm and Beta Ray Bill).
Trivia: A few moments after Susan rides the moped over the ramp, the American tourist who asks Susan, "Excuse me, do you know if there's a Popeye's Chicken around here?" is Melissa McCarthy's husband, Ben Falcone.
Trivia: The guitar that Domergue plays and that was subsequently destroyed by Ruth was a priceless antique from the 1870's on loan from the Martin Guitar Museum. Six replicas were made for the film, however Kurt Russell was misinformed and destroyed the original. Trivia: The secret project created to use the Hermes to return to Mars to rescue Watney was called Project Elrond, a reference from the Lord of the Rings (also used in the original book of The Martian). Mitch Henderson, played by Sean Bean, was an attendee at the Project Elrond meeting. Sean Bean also played Boromir, who was an attendee at the Council of Elrond in the LOTR movie.
Trivia: When the pterosaur flies into the restaurant, a man in a blue denim shirt wearing a safari-brim tan fedora and a red handkerchief tied around his neck can be seen jumping away from the creature. It is not Alan Grant, but this extra was dressed in the same outfit Dr. Grant wore in the original Jurassic Park.
Trivia: Riley is the only character in the movie with both male and female emotions.
Trivia: John Ratzenberger is Earl, an antagonistic velociraptor who is a member of Bubba's gang who tries to eat Spot. John has voiced parts in all Pixar films.
Trivia: Black Phillip, the goat, was supposed to appear in a several other scenes. But the goat was so poorly behaved on-set, his role in the film was drastically stripped down. The goat often either refused to do what the trainers told it, or in some ugly cases, he would randomly attack cast and crew members. Co-star Ralph Ineson even had to perform the bulk of the film under heavy painkillers after the goat slammed into his ribs and injured him.
Trivia: The head of Hasbro's door has his name displayed as "T. Jessup", a reference to Family Guy writer Ted Jessup.
Trivia: The two surfer dudes eating Krabby Patties after Spongebob and his friends appear, are Lloyd Ahlquist and Peter Shukoff, the creators of the internet series "Epic Rap Battles of History." They were also the writers and performers of the rap battle before the credits.
Trivia: Originally, Alejandro was meant to have much more dialogue, and his tragic origin would have been revealed earlier in the film. Actor Benicio Del Toro and director Denis Villeneuve ended up agreeing that the character worked better as a silent, mysterious type and that the revelation of his origin should occur late in the film. It is estimated that as much as 90% of his dialogue was deleted during rewrites.
