Revealing mistake: In the scene where Stripes is looking in the water at his reflection, his body and the reflection don't quite match up. You can tell by his movements that his reflection is computer generated. (This is verified by the audio commentary.)
Revealing mistake: When Herbie is being pulled from the truck at Crazy Dave's, Herbie goes into reverse and the camera does a closeup shot of one of the rear wheels reversing. If you look carefully, you can see an extra set of small wheels behind the tyre which are obviously propping the car up enough so that the cars proper wheels will only skid and not get any traction.
Revealing mistake: In the game against Liverpool, there is a reversed shot after Harris scores the first goal. It is fairly obvious since all of the players' numbers are backwards, in addition to the advertisements in the background. (01:45:25)
Revealing mistake: In the scene when the coach's friend (priest) also played by Martin Lawrence is praying with the team. Every time it shows the back of the coach's head in line with the front of the priest's head it has noticeably less hair than Martin Lawrence and you can tell it is a stand in.
Revealing mistake: The movie is set in 1962, the year of Burt's first trip to Bonneville, yet a U-Haul trailer with a present-day paint scheme is shown at the salt flats.
Revealing mistake: On the morning of the hydroplane race at Madison, Indiana, there's a shot of the Sun rising from behind the horizon. But- the Sun is seen moving toward the upper left. Madison is in the northern hemisphere, so the rising Sun ought to move just the opposite, to the upper right. Undoubtedly it was easier to photograph a sunset and run the film backwards.
Revealing mistake: When the wall is falling you can see the wires pulling it over.
Revealing mistake: When Capt Knauer aims the gun at Crewe after the game it shows the barrel with a plug and a hole too small for an actual bullet to come out of.
