Factual error: At the art exhibition, Eleanor wears a plastic name badge which looks rather modern for this period. (00:36:15)
Factual error: In the scene in the church where Ian is being baptized, he is in black shorts. In the Greek Orthodox Church, he would be required to wear white when being baptized.
Factual error: All swords in this movie are made from steel, and in the beginning it's said that the film takes place years before the Pyramids were built (they were built around 3200 BC). Steel wouldn't be around for 2000 more years. (00:03:50 - 00:12:40)
Factual error: At the end of the film, when Ramu is on the Sally Jesse Raphael show, even if it was being broadcast live in New York, it certainly wouldn't be broadcast live in India for his family to watch. Also, India is 9 1/2 hours ahead of New York. If Ramu's family are watching the show when it's daytime in New York, it's awfully light outside!
Factual error: The movie takes place in New York City, yet a sign on the ice cream store where the mother works says "Take Away." I know they call it "take away" in Britain and Ireland, but in New York it is called "take out." The movie was filmed in New York and Ireland, so that shot was probably filmed in Ireland. (00:09:45)
Factual error: After Joe spends sometime underwater in the bus, he goes into the village and pulls a picture of his wife out of his pocket to show the village people. After getting that wet, a picture will not be intact, and it would pretty much be stuck together.
Factual error: In the scene when Deeds rescues the woman from the fire, right before him and her jump out the window, all seven cats were rescued, but we can visually see a black cat on the left of the screen on top of the stove. Deeds and the woman jump from the window, leaving the black cat on top of the stove to burn in the fire. All seven cats were obviously not rescued.
Factual error: At Tiffany's, just before Andrew proposes, Melanie says Christmas is "four months away," making it August. She immediately heads down to Alabama to finalize the divorce and tell her parents she's engaged, but she and the townspeople are wearing warm clothes, including a long-sleeved black turtleneck and tall boots for her, and mid-weight jackets for the guys. They'd die of heat stroke wearing those articles in August in Alabama. (00:08:00 - 00:13:50)
Factual error: When the upset boyfriend ends up driving off the cliff, his car explodes into flames magically and the fire doesn't even start at the engine. The entire interior of the car is consumed and when the car crashes, its explosion is on par with a missile. The character, when seen next, doesn't have a burn on him at all ignoring the fact that there was no humanely possible way to survive that fall and explosion.
Factual error: Although the tie is obviously done for the purpose of the story, the fact is that Morris Brown would never be given high marks for their performance at the Big Southern Classic. This is a marching band competition, and they do little moving at all, let alone actually marching, changes of formation, etc. If anything they would rank last of all schools, if they weren't disqualified outright.
Factual error: Frida is shown watching King Kong when she goes to New York. It is well known that the movie was made in 1933, but later we see on her mother's grave that the year is 1932.
Factual error: In the scene at the zoo after Chris, Marissa and Ty are leaving the penguin enclosure, she and Ty are shown departing the zoo through a gate immediately adjacent to the left of the penguin house. In reality, while there is a gate there, it is never opened, the main entrance/exit is across the courtyard past the seal pool.
Factual error: The fake Rheya tries to kill herself by drinking liquid oxygen. The liquid shown is green, viscous, and foaming and looks a bit like the monster's body fluid in Alien. Liquid oxygen is colorless, non-viscous and doesn't produce sticky bubbles. (01:00:25)
Factual error: When Santa is shown the miniscule print on the 'Santa Clause' card (that he is supposed to be/get married) the Elf holds an enormous lens in front of it, to make it easier for Santa to read the print. From the distance Santa is standing at, from his point of view the card should appear upside down.
Factual error: In the bathroom scene at the motel where Lucy is in the shower and Mimi is using the toilet, Mimi flushes the toilet and Lucy yells "Ahh, freakin' cold," however, if someone flushes a toilet whilst another person is in the shower then this would result in the cold water being removed from the shower, so Lucy really should have yelled "freakin' hot," unless the toilet water was hot water. (00:23:35)
Factual error: During the wedding scene, the Bride's Family is on the right side facing the alter, in reality, the Bride's Family sits on the left side, the same side the bride stands on. (00:58:20)
Factual error: Josh Hartnett's roommate is reading the paper, which shows results from a big football game. But this movie is set during Lent, months away from football season. (The filmmakers admit this error during the DVD commentary.).
Factual error: At the end of the movie, Harry Truman is quoted in 1954 in laying out the domino theory, but it was his successor, Dwight D. Eisenhower who did that.
Factual error: After Van unplugs the power from the phone, it rings one more time, remember, it's a cordless phone. (01:10:05)
Factual error: Cheryl works in the Navy Exchange bookstore. In the United States Military(all branches of service) ONLY civilian employees work in the military exchanges, which are small retail stores for military and their family members.
