Continuity mistake: In the final battle scene between Geena Davis and Craig Beirko, Beirko's character slashes Davis' character across the stomach (upper right hand side). In the next shot, the wound is located on the lower left side and in a subsequent shot, the wound has multiplied to become two wounds: one in the upper right hand side and a second in the lower left hand side.
Continuity mistake: When Campbell and Cole are inside the Chinese herbal-like shop, the woman behind the counter offers Campbell a drink. When he goes to drink it he holds the cup with two hands but in the following shot he's holding it with only his right hand. (00:14:05)
Other mistake: Vanessa is illiterate, but easily reads the Hi-Way Café menu. (00:48:35)
Factual error: We learn that the previous sheriff, Charlie Wade, took revenge on anyone who smuggled illegal immigrants across the border in the late 1950s - we are shown the smuggling, as Eladio Cruz hides a group of Mexican men in a watermelon truck to take them across the border. However, in the 1950s, the border was not fortified the way it is now - the smuggling shown would simply not have been necessary.
Other mistake: Early in the movie when Shale is screening the commercial for his "services," the rolling text describing his abilities lists "Helicopter Repelling" instead of "Helicopter Rapelling".
Continuity mistake: Early in the film, Michael talks to Harry Boland on a boat. During this scene, a cigarette appears in Boland's mouth that was not in the previous shot. (00:40:40)
Continuity mistake: Near the end of the film, as Aaron/Roy reveals his deception to Martin, notice the jail cell 'door' behind Martin. During the majority of the scene the door is closed, but in a couple of shots it is wide open.
Revealing mistake: Hamlet is killed and in the next scene is being carried with his arms stiff to his sides. The men carrying him go over a bump, jolting Hamlet, and he blinks.
Continuity mistake: At one point, Claire Dane's friend announces her plan to pick up guys on the beach by wearing the skimpy blue swimsuit she models. She then says that she bought one for Claire Dane, and pulls another g-string from her shopping bag. The suit is red, yet when Claire Danes is strolling down the beach in it, it is now a dark plaid.
Continuity mistake: There is a scene where Al Pacino is getting dressed for a dinner while talking to one of his aids. He addresses the aide and is seen in a dressing gown with his hair all tousled and untidy. He turns away from the camera, looks in the mirror, and turns back to camera. Miraculously his hair is now tidy as can be, with not a hair out of place!
Factual error: Towards the end of the song "Out There" Quasimodo climbs onto the large spire on the roof. That spire was added in the 19th century and thus didn't exist when the movie was set.
Continuity mistake: When Basquiat is painting on a sign with a horse on it, he puts a white line through the horse. When Warhol has a look at it, the stripe no longer covers the horse.
Audio problem: When everyone is eating breakfast, Alex says "Would you pass the sugar, Noemi", but his mouth doesn't move at all.
Continuity mistake: There is one scene at a party where a guy drives off in a car. When he gets into the car, it is facing up the driveway with another car in front of it. When he drives off he drives straight ahead, without reversing down the driveway.
Continuity mistake: In the early scene at the diner, after Paul sits down at the table, his insulated mug changes from in his hands to at his sides and turns itself after he leaves. (00:06:50)
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Jjaks and Freddie escape and are driving in the red car, she opens the bottle of champagne and takes a drink with her right hand then hands it to Jjaks with the same right hand, but when the camera cuts to Jjaks, she is handing it with her left hand.
Continuity mistake: When James first meet Helen and Vaughn in the hospital, Helen starts to walk away while Vaughn is examining James' scars. You can see that Helen is almost at the other end of the corridor but when Vaughn finishes examining James, he walks towards Helen who is only a few meters in front of him.
Plot hole: When the monster sinks the boat, there is an underwater shot of the crew drowning. As one of them is struggling to the surface, a bottle of Bells whiskey sinks past him. The bottle is only one-third full, and the top is screwed on, so the bottle should float on the surface, even without a message in it.
Factual error: In the infamous Highland bus scene, the driver can be seen issuing tickets from a computerised ticketing machine - astonishing really - the film is set in the early 70s.
Continuity mistake: When Ricki Lake attends the 1st dinner with her mother in law, the servant puts an asparagus and some kind of a red thing on ricki's plate. In the next few shots, the red thing has disappeared. In the next scene, it is back on her plate.
