Revealing mistake: Most of the posed, fake displays in the ape's Museum of Natural History contain real people who are slightly moving if one pays careful attention. Especially noticeable are those posing with objects held in - or above - their hands.
Revealing mistake: When you see the first shot of the dead Mercutio, he's still breathing.
Revealing mistake: When we see the space station from the cockpit of the approaching shuttle, the station does not appear to rotate because the shuttle is rotating at the same speed. OK...except that the station IS still rotating with respect to the sun, which means that the light source and shadows on the station should be moving.
Revealing mistake: After the accident with the German car crashing into the pile of snow in which the Germans were killed, Schaffer first hangs an MP40 on his shoulder and then somehow pulls up a body with only one hand. And with the changing of the grip, (from chest to legs) the 'body' stands on his own feet to give Schaffer the time and opportunity to do it properly. (00:50:10)
Suggested correction: Schaffer uses two hands to pick the body up his left hand grabs the body's right arm and his right hand grabs the body's tunic (under the body's chin).
Revealing mistake: In the scene where Chitty is taking off from the castle, Caracticus looks down at the toymaker and Peter and says, "Bye bye". If you look closely, right in front of them, a boy runs across holding a stick he stole from one of the cavalrymen. He is waving it around and you can tell it's fake because it flops around like rubber. (02:16:50)
Revealing mistake: When Walther Matthau is making sandwiches for his poker pals (during the movie's first poker game), Matthau drops a slice of bread on the kitchen floor. If you look at his hand, you'll see that he flicks his thumb to make the slice of bread fall.
Revealing mistake: Except for the one that crashes, every single helicopter in this film is 100% factory fresh, brand new - no mud spatters, no scratched paint, not a dent or a blemish anywhere. They look like they just rolled off the production line. Strange that, on the front line in a war zone and all.
Revealing mistake: Jack Elam gets bothered by a fly crawling over his face (nice stunt, actually). When the fly moves over the bench, just before he catches it with the muzzle of his gun, look at the hind legs. You'll notice that the fly is dead. (00:07:50)
Revealing mistake: Whenever Dr. Nemur is smoking, you can tell the cigarette's not lit, because you can't see any smoke. When Mrs. Kinnian smokes in the movie, plenty of smoke is visible.
Revealing mistake: Just after the scene where the doctor asks Columbo to switch off the light before leaving, the detective does so, but it can be seen that both light switches are down before he does this, and that they are still both in the down position after he "switches off" the light.
Revealing mistake: Towards the end of the film when the old guy (Ed Begley Sr) is shooting a rifle at Clint Eastwood, the thumb of his left hand is on the top of the barrel, preventing him from seeing the front sight.
Revealing mistake: When Barabarella and Pygar are being attacked by the leather guards in the labyrinth, Barbarella tells Pygar to shoot to the right. Pygar, howver, swivels left and shoots, hitting the guard dead on. Since Pygar is blind, he had only her instructions to go on. (00:37:35)
Revealing mistake: During the bank hold-up at the beginning of the film, one of the pushes a man on the wall. It wobbles like cardboard.
Revealing mistake: When Bullitt is in the Coffee Contata restaurant, he called Delgetti at the grungy hotel. Bullitt didn't look at a note for the supposedly unfamiliar phone number, but it seems as if the number wouldn't take much to remember, either. The number Bullitt dials on the rotary phone sounds as if it is made up of only the digits 1, 2 and maybe a 3, to not slow down the sequence.
Revealing mistake: Rosemary crosses 5th Avenue as she goes looking for a bookstore to find more material on witches and a lot of bystanders can be seen staring at the film crew. (01:36:10)
Revealing mistake: At the beginning of the movie Geoffrey organises an ambush on a group of infantrymen marching on a pristine beach. When the second group of horsemen attacks there are already tracks in the sand, obviously from previous takes. (00:08:55)
Revealing mistake: Despite being supposedly close to the North Pole, we never see the actors breath and their shadows should be long, but they are very short.
Revealing mistake: When Carole and Jim rush out of Herbie to find Thorndyke under the bonnet, you can see that Carole is not Michele Lee but her stunt double.
Revealing mistake: Whilst imprisoned by the Burpers, Brother Belcher calls to one of the guards. The guard's supposed to have many missing teeth, but they have just been very obviously blacked to simulate this (a very common film or theatre trick, but usually not this obvious).
Revealing mistake: Early in the opening scene, Barbara and her brother Johnny are going to put flowers on their father's grave. As the two of them approach the gravesite, with Barbara leading the way around a low cut bush (centre screen), the camera angle changes and suddenly their positions in their walk have unrealistically changed. After Barbara says, "There it is," the camera angle changes and we now see Johnny walking behind the bush in a spot he had already walked (so he walks a small patch of lawn twice). Barbara instantaneously changes from walking full stride with her hands in her coat pocket to a momentary standing position with legs apart and the beginning of an initial step. Her hands are now no longer in her pockets but swinging at her side.
