Corrected entry: Doesn't it seem odd that when Tony is looking for Maria calling her name outside her apartment building that she is the ONLY Maria in that building in Spanish Harlem?
Corrected entry: Perdy has a blue collar and Pongo has a red collar. When Roger and Anita fall into the pond, Pongo is pulled in with them, Perdy does not fall in, she is holding on to Anita's torn dress. In the later scene Perdy gets out of the pond and shakes herself off, Pongo is standing there as if he never fell in. (00:09:35)
Correction: It isn't necessary to be shown everything onscreen. Yes, Pongo is in the pond just as Roger takes Anita's hat from Pongo. Then, while we see Roger placing the soaked hat on Anita's head onscreen, it's at this moment offscreen we can safely presume Pongo is walking out of the pond just as Perdita is walking into it to fetch Anita's shoe. So in the next shot onscreen we're shown Pongo is already out as Perdy is now walking out with Anita's shoe in her mouth with a "Hmph!" attitude, punctuated by her shaking the water off her body.
Corrected entry: Early in the film when George Peppard wakes Audrey Hepburn by knocking on her door, she is in bed wearing only one earplug, but when she stands at the door talking to him she has to unplug both her ears.
Correction: She is indeed wearing two ear plugs. You can see the second one dangling from her far ear as she walks from the bedroom to answer the door.
Corrected entry: When Miller exposes the traitor, he uses the expression "Q.E.D.". This is a short form of the Latin saying "Quod erat demonstrandum", which means (approximately) "which was to be proven".
Correction: This is absolutely not trivia. It is like explaining that when someone says 8.00 a.m. they are using an abbreviation for ante meridian, meaning before noon.
Corrected entry: The Seaview is rushing to the Guam area to launch the missile. They keep saying that time is critical but all the shots show them going there submerged. A surfaced submarine can go much faster.
Correction: The Seaview is a highly experimental craft (throughout the movie and the following TV series, it's established that the Seaview is faster and more maneuverable than any real-life submarine) whose drive method is never stated, other than it doesn't use propellors. Considering this, it's hardly implausible that the Seaview carries a drive system that functions more efficiently when fully submerged, driving it faster despite the increased water resistance.
Corrected entry: Near the beginning, Eli Wallach has to go outside to turn on the car radio for dance music because he says the cabin has no electricity. But while they dance, Thelma Ritter gets lunchmeat & mayo from the refridgerator for a sandwich. Moments later, when Clark Gable's standing in the front doorway talking to Marilyn Monroe who's now outside, you see somebody turn off a desk lamp right by the door where he's standing.
Correction: As Eli Wallach is giving Marilyn Monroe a tour of the house, he mentions that the refridgerator is gas, therefore electricity would not be a factor, and the lamp can be gas as well.
Corrected entry: When the balloon is inflated inside the sunken pirate ship and it resurfaces, where did all the dead pirates go? True, some had jumped into the water as the explosion occurred, but there are none who swam to shore, nor are there any bodies. Also, I doubt that the ship was under long enough for ALL the bodies to just disappear naturally.
Correction: The fact that you doubt it doesn't mean in can't happen. They are in warm tropical waters, so a putrefying body would fill with bacterial gases and float away from the wreck, providing a free lunch for hundreds of species of predatory or scavenging fish, worms and crabs. The ship would be clear of bodies within days.
Corrected entry: The height of the pendulum keeps changing.
Correction: The height of the blade is supposed to keep changing, getting a little closer to the victim with each succeeding swing. If it did not change, what would be the point?
Corrected entry: Early in the movie, a scene on the deck of the paddle steamer shows the steamer is out on an ocean, not a river.
Correction: Calveston is a coastal place on the gulf of Mexico, so open sea.
Corrected entry: When Carol decides to surrender her virtue to Linus, who is actually Jerry, she removes a foil-covered bottle of champagne from her refrigerator, presumably to drown her (and his, supposedly) inhibitions in alcohol. It takes her all of 3 seconds to strip the foil and effortlessly pop the cork, a feat most folks can only aspire to.
Correction: Perhaps something many people can only aspire to, but entirely possible, therefore, not a mistake.
Corrected entry: In the scene where Sharon cuts Susan's dress we see her using scissors but where did they come from?
Correction: Since Sharon wasn't allowed to go to the dance she could have easily brought them with her from her cabin. In fact when Sharon and her friends were watching the dance from outside, one of the girls says she has an idea, and they run off, presumably to get something and/or make a plan. Then they return, apparently having gotten the scissors, from their cabin or somewhere else.
Correction: Perhaps any other Maria didn't recognize the voice so she didn't go out to see who it was.
